What did you do in the garden today? I transplanted Spaghetti Squash last night, so extended drippers this morning. I got a trash can full of pine needles and layed them on top of the soil by some Iris and the Indian Corn. Ann
Gardening Happenings 8/23
Watering deeply by using a slow stream near the roots. My vegie garden is on a slope, so I have shallow ditches beside the rows. Sometimes the water will run about 20 ft before I need to move the hose. I try not to water the weeds but they grow anyhow. While tending to the watering I am building a compost pile using old bagged leaves I brought home from town where people pay to get them hauled off, and grass clippings from 3 lawns. Other ingredients are my kitchen trimmings and coffee grounds, weeds, and plants that are past the productive stage.
I waded through the mud to pick the cantaloupes that I think are ripening prematurely with all this rain.
I shook the plum tree to see if any of the fruit is starting to ripen - it is.
I picked and ate an apple to see if they are ripe yet - not quite.
Hi Mary, Hi LTilton, I liked reading about your day in the garden. Right now its a little over 100 degrees. I'm going to get household chores done, then going to have some garden fun this evening.
