I worked late last night so I didn't get up until 10 am this morning .. when I went out side everything was wet! My rain gauge said it rained 6/10ths of an inch!! Everything in my garden looks so happy!
How'd you do Deb?

It Rained!!!!!
We had 2 inches of rain.I'm ecstatic
Yahooo! The thunder woke me up in the middle of the night. I thought, "well that's nice but it'll be 1/10" if we're lucky." Imagine my surprise when the gauge showed 9/10" at 7 this morning. What a relief! I can spend two hours doing something other than watering tonight. :>
(I literally went out and danced in the drizzle this morning.)
I got up early this am to go out and get some plants potted before it got hot, and BOOM - it rains for the first time in weeks!! lol Only about 15 minutes, but it soaked everything, so I went back to bed. hehehehe It was nice to see some rain for a change.
there was lightning inland this morning visible from the HHI bridge. we got about a half inch
We're having a huge thunderstorm in So Anderson and it's POURING!! :):)
were fixin to get one too... hopefully... maybe the same one?
I'm glad someone in the Carolinas is getting rain cuz it ain't happening in my yard. I swear I have a huge umbrella over us. I got a whole 1/8 inch rain Wed. night. Woo Hoo! Prior to that, no measurable rain since 4th of July week. Thank Goodness for our well otherwise we would not have had a garden or any flowers. I can count on one hand how many times we mowed our grass this summer.
Melsalz: I am sending wishes for soggy-ness in your direction! Hope we start to get a more normal weather pattern soon.
Deb
We had a whopper of a storm this evening in So Anderson, but it never made it to No Anderson - weird! Wind, Lightning, Thunder, HUGE hail, almost the size of a grape. I don't have a rain guage, but I think we got about 2"-3" in the hour it rained.
I ran out to get a couple of my newly potted Brugs out of the way of the hail and was completely drenched in less than 2 minutes out there. I had to cover my face to protect it from the hail - one that hit my arm left a red mark for about 45 minutes.
So I go in, dry my hair & changed clothes to meet my sis for dinner. Then go out to get in the car and a gust of wind picked my lawn swing up & flung it a few feet, and pushed the rain up under my umbrella so I was all wet again in front. I went to dinner wet. LOL
lol. funny how the perfect gust comes at just the right time to drench you when you least need it!
It would just be fine by me to get drenched in my Sunday finest. I wouldn't care at all. Unfortunately, the rain God teased me again today. Seems it was raining all around us, could hear the thunder and see the dark clouds, but alas no rain.
We have only been getting a few dribbles here but with the humidity so high nothing is drying out. Wish I could share some with you Tarheels. We went through a drought like that in the spring and it isn't pretty watching things dry up.
Once again, another whole week without rain.Last week (lots of rain)was sublime.
Rebecca: I heard there's some big low pressure system in the Atlantic off the "Carolinas" that may bring "alot" of rain over the weekend. Let's hope that extends to Fuquay Varina!
Downscale: Same here, 5" of rain last week, none this week. Crazy summer.
Deb
Holy cow! That looks angry.
The news said that it won't be coming my way. Still no rain here. Mandatory water restrictions all around us. Extreme drought conditions. The lake level at Lake Norman is way below normal. Uncovering sand bars which is causing dangerous boat driving conditions. Oh some rain would be sweet. One nice thing I have noticed, unusual number of butterflies this year. I'm thinking it's because the wild flowers aren't blooming due to the lack of rain.
How sad about the lack of rain in your area. It would be better for your plants to go into their winter dormancy with some hydration. When we were going through the same thing last spring I was tempted to siphon the bath water out the window. The neighbors already think I am a bit of a garden wacko, that would have sealed the deal.
We have water restrictions here too. They are talking of upgrading them and allowing no watering if we don't get some rain soon. The lawn is very brown and all my plants are struggling. I gave up on the veggie garden.
There is no water restriction if you buy the water!

Take heart folks, that disorganized tropical depression thingy is drifting back toward the coast, according to the weather channel.
Deb
There are restrictions if the people you buy the water from tell you so. The fines are $100 and they are not giving warnings. People with wells have green lawns though.
I am just glad we don't have our boat in a boat slip because their boats are sitting in mud not water these days.
I'm talking about bottled water you buy at the grocery store. They are no restrictions on that whatsoever and don't let anyone tell you there is.

LOL, when I lived in Boston everyone drank bottled water and wherever you went it seemed like there was a Poland Spring truck on every corner. I can see it now, a caravan of Poland Spring trucks in Rock Hill. :-)))))
is that a brand of water? i've never heard of it
Yep, big time brand of (supposedly) real spring water. You can get it all over the country but I think CVS is the only place around here that carries it.
We were out of town for the weekend and came home late last night to find 1 1/4 inches of rain in the rain gauge. That was a long long run without rain, 10 weeks. I will take whatever the clouds will give me.
