Anybody know which this is and how to tell?

Wow Tami, I don't know which that hoya is, but it is really pretty! I really like how vibrant the yellow is on those flowers!!

I seem to have a lot of whites, creams, and fairly muted flowering hoyas, and pictures like this, and the August blooms, is really making me aware of the need to start looking at flowers, and less at the awesome foliage that is out there.

Thanks for sharing your picture.

Sara

I have both of these, and while they've never bloomed for me, the growth habit and leaves are completely different betwen the two. Ischnopsis has a thinner vine with more space between the leaves, and the leaves are darker and not as fleshy (succulent) as kenejiana. I hope that helps.

Thanks Sara and Christine.
Christine,
Is there anyway you can post pictures of the differences you mentioned? It sure would help. I understand the trouble but if you have time.

HOpefully Mark will come up and shed some light!!! He is the one who found that my 'ischnopus' was really 'kenejiana'.... I get so confused by them!!!

Not a problem. I'm at work right now though, but I'll take pictures tonight and post them, unless Mark clears this up sooner.

Thanks so much all of you. Means allot that people take the time to even post let alone take pictures for comparison.

Tami, here's my h.ischnopsis. The new leaves are a lighter colour, and the others are very dark green, and mostly a round shape.

And here's h.kenejiana - you can see the leaves are more long, pointed, and a lighter green. They're also about double the size of h.ischnopsis. Threre's way more of them too, and I got them both around the same time, so h.ischnopsis is growing way slower for me. I guess it didn't help that I accidently decapitated it last summer...lol...

Hope this helps.

Tami, that looks like H. kenejiana. H. ischnopus has thinner corona lobes, kenejiana's are fatter and have a more prominent divot in the center of each one, like the flowers in your picture. Ischnopus also tends to take on salmon or peach tones in high light.
Christine, pretty new leaves on your ischnopus- they look kind of pink in the picture.

Thanks all for your input. This isn't mine, It is a friends and she has been told it was both plants. I just wanted to find out for sure for her. Nice plant. I hope to have one some day as well.
Thanks Christine for the pictures. I have forwarded the info to her.

Tami

Tami, I just looked at the leaves in your picture, and I agree that its h.kenejiana. I only looked at the flowers before, duh me. Beautiful, beautiful flowers, and I can't wait for mine to bloom, but again I say, patience, thy name is hoya addict....

Christine,
I can't thank you enough. You, Mark, Carol and Sara have been very sweet in helping me. I think she bought the plant as Kenejiana but well meaning people have told her Ischnopus. I don't have either so couldn't help her. Here is a better picture of the leaves that she sent this morning. She had Kenejiana spelt Kemejiana and I think couldn't find any info on it. Thanks to y'all the mystery has been solved.
