All the new hens and the rooster have settled into the chicken palace. There was a lot of squawking as the hens got to know the old ones, but everyone seems to have found their place. The rooster (Americaunna standard) thinks he's pretty hot stuff. Twelve ladies and a chandelier in his coop (not to mention the stained glass windows). We had three Americaunna roosters to choose from and ended choosing the most docile of the three. One of the others was prettier, but he came at us repeatedly while we were catching the hens and I rather prefer my ankles without holes. Now, if they would just give me some eggs! I only have 4 laying right now and I'm used to more eggs than that. This afternoos, I took out the peach peels and any bad fruit with some stale cake and I swear I heard one of the old hens telling the new ones, "See, I told you there were advantages to being "house " chickens! We get lots of treats!"
New Rooster installed in his "palace"
A chandelier and stained glass windows in the coop!? Wow, I want to see more pictures. It IS a palace! Very, very nice… LOVE the water hook up right outside the pen too! ….Gotta get me one of those….. Do you winterize the water pipe before winter hits up there, or do you have a way of keeping it from freezing?
Is that your peacock checking everything out in the pen; making sure everything is on the up and up? Wasn't he the one who was running around like mad trying to get everyone back where they belonged a few nights ago? (Mass Jail Break) I don't know if you've named him already, but if not, I think you should call him "The Mayor" - he thinks he's "in charge" of the "whole town" at your place. LOL
Beautiful rooster too!

Hi Jylgaskin, love the chickens.
I was wondering what that black hen was. I have one too, and I think it's a Dominique.
We blow the pipes out before winter.
The peacock's name is Beep. The one we lost was named Toot. We named them after the noise they make. AAAAKKK-oughtttt-AAAAAAkkkk is too hard to spell.
The black hen is a buck-nienty-five chicken. She was a left over at the feed store and was on sale. I think it was a black sex link.
The girls must be happy in their new digs, I found two little dark brown eggs in the chicken yard. I canned beets today and gave them the tops and peelings. Now I will get really dark orange yolks for a few days.
The rooster acts like he can't believe his good fortune! He thinks he has gone to heaven. Hopefully this weekend, the rest of the roosters will.
