Sunset 2nd Round of Blooms

Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I planted a Sunset this Spring, and after it was done blooming, I hard pruned it as I was told that would encourage rebloom. Sure enough, it's got several buds and is going for Round 2!

My Henryi also has a few buds. But for the life of me, I can't seem to get Candida to bloom again. It puts on an amazing show in Spring, but that seems to be all I can get out of it.

Karen..are you fertilizing "Candida" again after it blooms? and making sure it is staying moist?...Your clematis "Sunset" is stunning!! I planted one a few months ago and my dumb gardener..thinking it was a weed yanked it out!!...Jeanne

Jeanne, no, I didn't fertilize after they bloomed. Just cut them all back. I guess Candida needs that extra boost after it's finished blooming. Not surprising, since the flowers are incredible. It probably takes a lot of energy to put on a show like that! Guess I'll have to try again next year! What fertilizer do you use? I've occasionally used Rose fertilizer but I'm not sure if that's the best I can do for them.

I have used my Rose or Tomato Fertilizer..just as long as the middle number is the highest is ok...inbetween times (When not in bloom or have set buds) I have tossed out 13-13-13
