have Oxalis regnellii 'Atropurpurea' bulbs or hibiscus plugs

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Oxalis regnellii 'Atropurpurea' grows well for me here in zone 8. I would love to get more of the Oxalis to scatter about. I'm very interested in other Oxalis bulbs with bi-color leaves and/or yellow blooms. I am especially looking for Oxalis regnellii Iron Cross. I have many perennials, begonia, bulbs, hibiscus, etc. I can trade if not interested in my Oxalis bulbs. I am rooting Hibiscus acetosella haight ashbury that I would be happy to also trade for these bulbs. See the photo....its a looker!

Lets work something out.

flower, does this variety go dormant for the winter? I have the Iron Cross but not sure if I wouldbe able to grow Atrpurpurea. I do not have space in the house for keeping another plant that does not go dormant for winter storage.

Sorry. This is very tropical. It will freeze at 25 degrees.

Flower,

I bought 150 of the Iron Cross bulbs this past summer so have a bunch scattered about myself.

I would be interested in your Acetocella if it is rooted. Would also like make the trade box a bit fuller. Let's tempt each other in dmail. I am in 8b and have many things that would do well in your zone too.

Daisy-

I also have some of the "Iron Cross"...has pink flowers. Could we possibly do a small trade as I would love to have some of your Oxalis. I have some smaller bubble envies...what I could do is send you some of my bulbs in it with a mailing label and you could recycle the BE back to me with a couple of your oxalis bulbs???

Let me know...

flower. I think you misunderstood my question. My Iron Cross go dormant at the end of the summer, so I just store the pot in the basement until the spring. I do not leave them outside and was asking if the variety you were offering goes dormant as well - without the freezing bit that you assumed.

I see that you were able to do trades for the iron cross.

krowten,

Opps! I thought you were interested in the hibiscus. The OXALIS go dormant in the winter months. In August, if they are in full sun, they lose thier leaves to rest, but come fall they sprout out again. If they are in shade they will not be as full or grow as fast but the leaves don't fall away until winter.

flower, I too did some research and found out that the var you have does have bulbs and does go dormant and may work out for me.. I am interested in trying out some more of the Oxalis spp., so keep me in mind for a future trade. Mine would hve to be potted and stored for the winter, but would probably do OK

flowerjunkie/krowten:

krowten should have "first dibs" at doing the trade, "Iron Cross", for flowerjunkie's "Oxalis regnelli 'Atropurpurea" as krowten replied before I did and I don't feel that it would be right for me to do the trade as such...thank you for the opportunity and, perhaps, we could work out something else later...

Happy Gardening!

JanLynn,

I don't think krowten wanted to trade this year. In any case I have lots of "Oxalis regnelli 'Atropurpurea"!!! No need for anyone to be left out. I only had one trade confirmed and that was with you. Now I have none! :-(

krowten,

If you want to trade with me I would be more than happy to do so. I read your email to imply you might be interested in trading at a later date. If I misunderstood PLEASE forgive and lets trade! LOL!

Will some one PLEASE trade me some Oxalis Iron Cross. I need lots of it and I have lots of the "Oxalis regnelli 'Atropurpurea" to trade. I can trade other plants or bulbs for your Oxalis iron cross.

Hi Daisy-

I emailed you back...I just didn't want to cause any hurt feelings! You mentioned that you have a lot of these so you can do a trade with me, and zest, COOL!?!?!? By the way zest, love the photograph---beautiful image!

Hi Monica,

Thanks! Yes, you can send both since you're sending. In turn I can send you bulbs of Alocasia 'Hilo Beauty' & Rhizomes of Canna Bengal Tiger, Musifolia & Tropicanna.

How about we do our trade on Tuesday of next week? Monday is a holiday for us and since the packages will be traveling so far we don't need another day in transit.

Thanks again,
Daisy

Thanks a bunch!

Daisy,

I am still wanting to trade. I have the Iron Crosses and you have a hibiscus you are rooting for me?

Molly

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Yes. Molly,

I've got the variegated hibiscus rooting under a mister. I checked on them a couple of days ago and they still have thier leaves so everything looks like they are rooting. I think maybe by next week end I can send your hibiscus. I still have to send you my list so we can work out a bigger trade. I'll do that in a bit.

Daisy, sorry for the confusion. Please do trade with JanLynn and the others and do not feel that I was missed. I d-mailed her to this effect as well. I only have one pot of Iron Cross, but I divide it every year and give them away (usually to my mom, who manages to kill it every winter lol). However the others above can probably supply you with more bulbs than I. I was just trying to help you out and did not realize that you would get such a large response. I am willing to trade if you still need more, but only need a couple of bulbs of yours to get started and could only supply a few Iron Cross bulbs anyway.

To everybody: By the way, are any of you Oxalis freaks growing tuberosum (oca)?

John

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi John,

I am getting the Iron Cross from three wonderful Dave's Gardeners. So I think with all three of them pitching in I will have enough for my little project.

I can send you some of my Oxalis if you like. I'll just drop of few in the mail when I mail Jan's. No trade needed. Just let me know if you want them now or in the spring.

Thanks,

Daisy
