litter box problem

Somebody is leaving little poopy and pee messages for us. Poo right outside the litter box. Only in the litter box room. Pee in every corner of the litter box room.

We think it's our Turkish Van, Molly, who was kicked in the head by a horse and we restored her back to health as a kitten. We got her on freecycle. The people who found her in their barn didn't want her because their other cats didn't like her. She gets along fine with my other cats. They all love her and clean her and vice versa.

It's quite the cattery here, though I could take in more, my husband says we have hit critical mass on cats. We have 5 rescues. All are grown ups now and neutered or spayed and all have claws intact. 4 girls and a boy. Molly (the turkish van) had a bladder infection but now is healed of it.

We got a new littermaid litter box trying to fix this problem...

And although they love the littermaid with the tent (hilarious) there are also still "messages" left for us. I don't know if she's too dumb to use the boxes right or if she's trying to give us a message about something.

The rub of it is my husband came from a family where animals were often lost, killed on the road, or even neglected to death (a guinea pig left in the sun without food or water for a whole day - how sick)... and he wants to have her put down because of this problem.

I won't hear of it, but I do wish there were some way to get her to use the box better.

Any ideas? We're about to go away for 2 weeks and have a house sitter who will have to take on this problem (yuck) and I think she may agree more with my husband than with me.
