I don't see a thread on this topic so if there is one, please direct me to that.
I have been making food for my dog who is a very active, well exercised, 60 lb. and happy 5 year old. I have been making her food since the pet food scare earlier this year. I have been trying to locate acurate information on just exactly what and how much to feed my dog to maintain her best health.
Here's what she's getting now: 1 cup of cooked rice, 1/4 lb. raw ground bison meat, 1 cup of cooked carrots and green beans with 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil. She is fed this amount twice a day. I have recently cut back the amount of meat from 1 cup to 1/2 cup per serving. She also gets a raw meat bone every week or two to keep her teeth clean.
We used to provide an open bowl of IAMS brand large chunk food. She would eat when she was hungry and never over ate. Needless to say, there's no open bowl now. She loves her new food of course.
My concerns:
In the last couple of days she behaves as though she's hungry.
She has been showing dandruff in the last month.
In the winter her skin was tight to her muscle. Now, her skin is looser.
She's shedding fistfuls now which seems an odd time of year for that.
(Maybe this is all just part of the transition from dry food to good food.)
So, for those who know, I could use some factual information about changes I could make for her optimum health.
