Has anyone ever used these? Good, bad, maybe???
Impress-O-Tags?
I've never used them, but was curious enough to research the product name. Check them out at http://amekron.com/main.html . They look very useful, particularly in having a long-lasting waterproof tag which will last through the seasons.
Haven't used them but they sure look handy! I've quit using tags for seed pods & cuttings.. I just write directly on the plant with the garden marker and it lasted all year on cuttings!
I've used them, and like them. Problem is the the price though. With as many cuttings I do, it would cost a small fortune...
I'll put them on a plant I'm giving as a gift sometimes.
I've been using the plastic wrap around tags but I really don't care for them. The ink fades over time and then I'm left with a no name plant I've been looking for a tag that will stay readable forever and this is about as close as I have gotten.
I saw them here http://www.plumeriagallery.com/catalog_c248099.html
I haven't found any cheaper for the large size. I may just give them a try.
ZZ what do you write on the seed pods and cuttings with, I've used markers but once they get a tad moisture on the marker, they don't write any more. pencil doesn't work either. sometimes pen won't work for me either.
I've received plants with those kinds of tags on them, they work well, Probably would never have a problem with them. They look like they'd last for years. didn't see the cost, probably too much for me LOL
I use the plastic wrap around kind and like them. The plastic ones you can write on with pencil, and it never wears off. The only problem with them is that they will eventually become brittle (after a couple of yeas). I also have the vinyl wrap arounds which can't be written on with pencil. For those, I have a garden marker that is specially for this use. It will still fade eventually, but even in my area in full sun, it's taken 3 years or more for some of then to fade out beyond the point of being able to decipher it.
The garden markers come in two different sizes, a fatter one and a thinner one. The fatter one can be left out and be ok (mine is a couple years old now). The thinner ones will dry out quickly (even with the lid on), but I've solved that problem by storing it in a zip-lock baggy.
I've also tried paint pens. And hated them. Here in the South, the paint will melt and bleed in our extreme heat. One that I made well over a year ago is still as black as the day I wrote it, but it's bled to the point of being completely illegible (if I didn't know that particular plant was).
Kathy, I use plain ol' scotch tape (like for gift wrapping) on pods. I just write in pencil the cross and the date it was made and then wrap that around the stem of the pod (actually, right at the spot where the pod joins the stem). It doesn't fade, and the tape doesn't come off.
This is where I got my pens from:

WOW you have to buy a carton of 10 boxes with 100 tags a box. I will stick to my blind slats and a ball point pen or no 10 pencil
I love those tags! I purchased 3 plumeria - 2 with regular vinyl wrap around tags written with magic marker and one with the impress-o-tag on it. The wrap around tags faded with the full sun and now I have no idea what their names are, but the impress-o-tag is like brand new. They're pricey, but I might have to break down and get some, especially with my old age loss of memory.
Kareoke, there are other places that sell them in smaller affordable quantities.
