There's been a lot of discussion about fixing the AV pages in PlantFiles by reviewing the entries and adding details and/or making error reports as needed, and it sounds like an organized effort will soon be underway. :-)
One question that has come up is how to do the bloom color checkboxes. (See this thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/762069/ for some previous discussion, starting with RainGazer's post at 6:19, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3879331.)
There are two ways to go about this, and as Mystic has said, neither way is wrong -- but we might want to see if we can choose a way for the sake of consistency.
One way is to check off the dominant color of the bloom. (In the case of some thumbprint markings or heavy fantasy markings, this might be two colors.) That way, a search for "blue" blooms will turn up all the AVs that look more or less blue in color, without also including those with slight amounts of blue in their markings or edges.
The other way is to list every color that occurs in the bloom. An AV that's blue with a white edge that occasionally includes some green, and pink and purple fantasty markings would have blue, white, green, pink, and purple all checked off under bloom color. This might make the description more complete, but it might also make searches more confusing.
It's a toss-up. I suppose we could flip a coin, but it seemed better to take a poll and see what people thought, then try to reach a consensus. Which option would make the PF entries most useful to you?
We need everyone's input on bloom color info, please!
I like the idea of searching by the dominant color. If I'm searching for a fantasy that is blue with pink and white splashes, I don't want to see every AV that has blue, pink and white in the bloom. And.........having the correct photo of the bloom so you could see the colors and could see how much of each one is on the bloom would be a lot more helpful than listing every color.
I vote for Dominant Color.
I have so very few AVs... but if I were doing a search... I think by dominant color would be best.
dominant for me too.
Alrighty then, it seems that checking off only the dominant bloom color is the choice of the majority, between this thread and the other one. That's what we're going to go with then.
Thanks all for your input! :o)
drats...outvoted. lol ; D
Dominant color sounds good to me. That's one of the things I find frustrating about searching the First Class database by bloom color... if I'm looking for a blue AV, for example, it will return every entry whose blossom contains any hint of blue... which means clicking through 100's of entries that aren't what I'm after.
