August Blooming Shrub

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I just got back from Corvallis, Oregon and celbrating my father's 89th birthday with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whew! I know we tired him out, but he was a happy tired.

Anyway, while out walking, I saw a shrub, about 4 feet tall with pink blossoms at the end of its large branches. The branches grew up in a 'U" shape from the base of the stem. There was no fragrance to either the blossoms or the leaves. The blossoms where large, made up of smaller blossoms, and it looked a little bit like phlox, but this was definitely a shrub. I didn't have a camera, so I couldn't get a picture. :-(

Does anybody have an idea of what this could be?

Thanks,

Kathy

Well, I have to laugh. It's blooming everywhere now. I think what I saw (for the first time in real life, I think), was a small crape myrtle.

Putting it on my list . . .

I'm baaaack - CM's: there are some fantastic cultivars that are hardy here & smaller. Well, that's relative! there is a series with Native American names - nice. I think I have a photo. Mine is Zuni.

Its the tall plant (on the left) - with a dark pink blossom.
The other i have is 'white chocolate' dark foliage, white flowers.
Got it at Molbaks last year.

Ooooh. Ahhhhh. Seriously nice color there. I have heard about them (Arbor Day is giving them away now with additional donations, etc.). I think I'd like one. :-)

They are so easy to deal with if you give them good drainage. easy to prune. Even my dogs help with that task. They want to make it real short, though.
