I want to thank those that have and continue to help educate me on passis...I'm completely in love with these...that I can tell you. A few of you were incredibly generous in sharing your passis with me - I can not even begin to tell you how much I appreciate it!! Before I left on vacation I noticed a few blooms on my Maypop..sadly I was too rushed to get pics. Thankfully after getting home and checking on plants I had plenty to take pics of. Hoping to get blooms on the Incense and Purple Haze before our weather starts cooling.
Here is a sunkissed bloom....the scent is wonderful!!!
Good Ole Maypop
chantell, i too have recently become enamored of passis and your pics are gorgeous!!! the maypop i planted last year has grown like crazy but so far only 2 blooms (didn't get any pics), but here is a pic of my cerulean 'waterloo blue'.
check this link about maypop edibility http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/lists/passiflora/2003042221000562.html
What a gorgeous pic!! That blue is beautiful!! Are those cold hardy up our way?
Going to check out your link now...
it is supposed to be hardy in 7-10. i just bought it this year and have it in a container. i don't know if i should risk planting it. i am on the border of zones 6b and 7a, so it's kinda iffy. LazyS'S nursery has a good selection in the spring, but are not selling any now.
let me know how the maypop fruit tastes!
I certainly can understand that...I've kept my Purple Haze in a pot "just in case." I'd hoped to get some feedback on it's hardiness...
Looks like I'll be placing an order w/Lazy S next spring. :)
Will let you know about the fruit.
Ok wow!!! I came here in search of some neat vines to plant and WOWOWOWOW!! Never heard of them now I sooo have to go check these out!! Gorgeous pictures!
kristen - big ole welcome to you...although I'm a newbie to the vines forum myself!! These are incredible plants...I'm completely in love!
How big do these guys get? I have a fence that is the entire length of my house plus the half acre we have that would be Awesome to cover with vines...It gets sun most of the day with some shade so I think most vines out there could handle that...Thanks for the welcome..and a newbie to vines...wow well that is on heck of a plant for a newbie! You will be graduating soon I'm sure of it! :):)
kristen - my understanding is BIG! You might want to do a search on that in this forum or ask in a new thread - I wouldn't want your questions to get lost in "here." Thanks for your sweet words!! I think the Maypop is one of the easier ones to grow though...we'll see how the others do. :)
if it's passiflora you want, go right to www.logees.com and check out their great selection! eye candy to the max!!!
kudrick - oh mercy...there goes the savings acct..LOL
tell me about it chantell, my account is empty!!!
ahhh...I feel your pain...really!! LOL
So how hardy are maypops? My neighbour grows them like a crop every year....The vine does not survive but it is a prolific seeder.....
Plantfiles http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1189/ is showing 6B
I have two maypops that have survived at least two winters in southwestern PA. The vines die to the ground after a really hard freeze, but come back in early June. The second year the vines were more vigorous and fruit larger than previous year.
