Hi everyone. Just had to share my favorite African Violets. (Can you call them favorites if you're still so new to this that they compromise the bulk of your collection?) LOL Also wanted to share some of my nerves. ;o) These 6 are the ones I love best. I'm really trying to get these little guys to thrive. So far they seem to be doing well, which has me very excited! If the amount of fussing I've been doing counts for anything then they should be okay. :o) Anyway, here they are. It would be great if ya'll could keep your fingers crossed for me. The top is Apache Flash, left is Rob's Mad Cat and the tiny one (my very favorite of all!) is Rob's Love Bite. The sad leaf you see in the top background is a Champagne Pink sport that my kitties knocked over as soon as it arrived. We're all hoping it will get better soon. :o)
Thanks!
Melissa
Nervous But Hopeful
That's Rob's Galiwinku in the white pot. Rob's Squeezetoy to the left and Rob's Shadow Magic on the right. I've already ordered more glazed pots, since I've discovered the hard way what can happen with unglazed. I'm not sure if you can see the discoloration to the leaf on Rob's Shadow Magic. As soon as the new glazed pots arrive I'll switch those two out as well.
By the way, thanks to Raingazer and to everyone who has posted her potting mix in the forums. I shamelessly stole it, since I had no idea what I was supposed to pot with. :o)
They look healthy to me............can't wait until they bloom............please show us.......
Of course I will. Also, Gail, if you ever see that I have an AV you'd like a leaf of, just let me know. Have to pay you back somehow for all the great advice! Thanks!
I am sooooooooooo 'dingy' I didn't know that I gave you any advice, but thanks...........if you ever want leaves to grow, I have them for sure.............just let me know.................
*****I am growing leaves of 3 of those you have.............so excited to see what they will look like.............
Those are some good ones you've got there, Melissa! I am excited to see them bloom, so don't forget to post pictures! :o)
You're most welcome to shamelessly steal any info I post, but keep in mind, I'm stumbling through and learning as I go, just like everyone else! :o) I've had my fair share of failures, so just don't mistake me for an expert! ;o)
Good luck with those beauties!
Those are beautiful, Drinnian. Looks like you've received the african violet love bite so to speak.
They look great, Drinnian! Lovin' your purple passion as well!! Looks really healthy!
Shamelessly stole her recipe...lol!!! That really cracked me up! Watch out...she may charge royalty fees. ; )
Thanks everyone! I'm excited to be sharing my progress, or what there is of it so far. :o) I'll post more pictures as soon as they bloom. Sure hope she doesn't charge royalty fees. LOL
Melissa: Congratulations on catching the AV "Bug"!! You are in a great club here! And, if you think you are excited now .... just wait til you get your first bloom! What kind of fertilizer are you going to use, or have you decided yet?
Your new babies are just adorable ... keep us posted as they grow, mature and bloom!
The really fun part, Melissa, is that right now you love those AVs and want to give them all your attention. But sooner or later (probably sooner) you'll see a Strep or Episcia or Kohleria or some other Gesneriad that catches your eye. Then you'll get to looking at pictures of those. Then you'll decide to get just one to try, and before you know it, you'll have a house full of all the different kinds of Gesneriads, not just AVs.
AVs are like the on-ramp to the Gesneriad highway! LOL
Are you talking about me charging royalty fees?? Never, I just require a leaf, cutting, stolon, rhizome, or tuber of each and every plant you use my potting mix recipe on!! ROFL You know I'm just kidding!! If it works for you, I'm thrilled!! Pot away! :o)
LOL Amy! So true! I have grown the wayward AV over the years but since joining DG ended up with quite a few, mostly Noids from Wal-Mart but did end up buying a few here and there from Rob's and Bluebirds! Very easy to get carried away! Then I got hooked on Chirita's!! Thank Goodness there don't seem to be that many of them available or I'd probably have a house full! Aaaaah .... as for Strep's, Episcia's, Kohleria's .... haven't had much luck with them at all. But, I'm NOT giving up! I just love the Gessie family of plants! So many different ones and all so Beautiful!
Melissa is gonna be hooked real quick if she isn't already!
There are also alot of "enablers" here in the Gessie forum... (Amy!)
Just kidding! These are the most wonderful people here you could want to meet and play with!
Karen
Look at you, with all that finger-pointing!! Shame, shame... You should work out all that frustration, perhaps with a craft... 'Spin Art' maybe...... Ahahahah ROFL!!! ;o)
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
YOU are so fuunnnnyyyy!!!
8*P
amy.........................you have just come up with the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Avs are the on-ramp to the gesneriad highway!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so true............I am new enough to still be growing avs like a newbie...................leaves planted all over the house.............
Welcome, Drinnian to a wonderful life!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, really. Didn't we all start with AVs because we knew what they were? And then we discovered all the other really cool Gesneriads... I prefer the other Gessies over AVs by far now, and some others do, too. But I'd never have grown any of these if not for trying my hand at AVs. :o)
I still 'love' 'love' my avs................shame on you, Rain..............(LOL)............................but I am slowly discovering the 'really cool ' gesneriads......................
I know. I'm just bad. A 'Rebel' maybe even!! LOL
Hi everyone. Sorry I was gone for a bit. Finally decided it was time to stop working from home and head back in to the office. :op. Lin, I'm using something called Eleanor's VF-11. I saw Gail mention in a thread. It seems to be working pretty well. Also, Rain, I do have one other gessie. :o) It's a kohleria. Hoping to try to bring it back. I had two, but my kitties decided they looked like fun toys. They got to those and the Apache Flash in the same day. LOL Part of the ups and downs of the gardener's life, I think. :)
