I was out collecting seeds today and she just fluttered in and landed on a flower. Does anyone know what kind she is?
Butterfly ?
It's a Buckeye. Don't have one of my butterfly books handy to tell you specifically which one. Someone will come along shortly and tell you exactly which one. In the meantime, look in the Guide here in Dave's Garden. There are numerous sites online.

Go to the bug guide and post your picture with a request for help with ID and you will get some real experts.

makshi--very pretty buckeye. Are they fairly common where you are? I seldom see them here....
tabasco,
First one I have seen. This is the first year I have been able to have so much that the butterflies like.
Well, congratulations on getting him to visit!
I looked up buckeye host plants and they look like fairly like nice garden plants--Snapdragon, Toadflax, Heliotrope and Verbena are a few. I'm going to have to plant more of those--I yanked my snapdragons because I thought the colors were bad but if they are host plants I can live with them!

The only one I have of those plants is a tiny little annual verbena in my front garden.
