Episcias

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Oh Good Grief! I have my episcias summering on the front porch and everyone of the promiscuous(sp?)heifers has seed pods. I just donated 21 Faded Jade Seedlings to the August Bingo and now THIS!

Those bad girls. LOL If you want to get rid of their off springs (seeds) just look me up. I would love to try them.

Patti,
The Faded Jade seeds will diffinantly be up for adoption. I'll have to wait and see on SS and SP to see if there's any more pods. Curiousity will make me sew those just to see what comes of them. All of them are hanging right together so no telling what will come out of that love fest.*G*

LOL..When I first saw your thread title I must admit I wondered"What in heavens name have we all done to make bigred soo upset?"

Wow your Episcias have been busy little bees indeed! I bet the babies will be really neat looking!

I just fell in love with episcia resently . I bought three on ebay, and I couldn't believe how beautiful there are. The pictures doesn't do them justice. :O)

cedarnest....ROTFLOL...got your attention..Huh?

Patti,
I'd love to get some more varieties too but at the rate the ones I have, are making seeds...I'll never have the room...LOL

here's my two favorite seedlings from the first pods I sewed. Bothe same age but as you can see,the left one is smaller more compact.

OH, the relief, I thought you were talking about my friends when I saw this thread.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

You got friends you suspect too?...LOL

At least I know you weren't talking about me..lol

Well if you're not the lucky one again! All those seedpods. Your seedlings are beautiful. Can't decide which I like more. If I had to pick, maybe the second larger one. Not sure though, they're both very nice.

Next year, I am going to put some of my episcias out on the front porch and give them a lesson on the birds and the bees. Think they'll get it? Let's hope.

Do you have hummingbirds around?

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

LOL Trop...I wouldn't say something like that to you....r face...LOL..just kidding!

Snowrose...hummers,bees,wasp,,,all kinds of tiny flying livestock. There's 4 hummingbird feeders and a seed feeder hanging with the epsicais plus those red/orange flowers on the episcias are like a beacon to the hummers....but I don't think there's a whole lot of nector in them.

I did a rough count yesterady: Strawberry Patch has 3 pods,Silver Skies has 2. I stopped counting at 30 on Faded Jade...G@@D GRIEF! FJ gave me 3 pods the first time resulting in 72 seedlings..again...G@@D GRIEF! I will offer them up for trades of av leaves when ripe if anyone wants to experiment. Easy to start from seed. I used a plastic bowl with a lid...sprinkled the seeds over the top of the moist soil, cover the bowl with the lids and they were up when a matter of a few short days. If I got 72 seedlings from 3 pods, you can say each pod had 24 seeds.

bigred, I really do like your episcias, I have a couple I have gotten from a trader in Puerto Rico and I know nothing about them other than they're easy to grow.

You've inspired me to keep an eye out for seeds ;)

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Trop,
I've never gotten seeds on them while they're inside. I summer them outside hanging on the eaves of the porch. Last year was the first time. This year I have a bumper crop.

SS seedlings are going to be interesting to watch.

Mine are outside now as I forget about anything inside the house this time of year. So far only my chrystostemis pulchella is blooming, but slugs seem to really like, so the flowers look great but the leaves are all wholy.

What a FUN thread...Epi seeds, something to share....seedlings looking great!
Thread Title PRICELESS

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I joined the gesneriad society the other day.............can't wait for my first magazine (although jannich was nice enough to send her old ones) to see what seeds are available...........I am quite sure episcias are available through them..............in fact, WildRose , the first order from Brazil, i ordered you episcia seed................

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I see the title changed.....

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

LOL, yep it did...

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

What was the title before? This "Epicias" caught my eye....everytime I say it, my husband says "bless you". Had my little guy under the porch cover cuz read somewhere that they don't like getting wet....didn't do so well. put it in a pot with some Alocasia and moved into general population...and is doing great! Not nearly as fussy as I had been led to believe. Hope I get seed pods - now that I know what to look for!

Ummm.... thank you Gail, I know you ordered me episcia seed, and I greatly appreciate it. I just haven't had time to sow them yet.

But... I'm not sure who you were referring to in this thread from above, but I have not replied in this thread until now... I just happened to be reading, and saw my name mentioned.

I am sorry if I have offended someone somewhere, but I've hardly written 3-4 posts all weekend....

Thanks, and have a good evening...

Karen, they were talking about where to get episcia seeds...............that is how it came up and I was simply asking you if you had gotten yours..............i see that you have and that is great...........amy was out of town and the last post you said you hadn't gotten them yet.............

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

OK... sorry... I was just confused, because I had not written anything to this thread.

That had been a week ago, and on the propogation thread, and I had let Amy know that I had received the seeds. I have been too busy with disability hearings and the like at work, to do any major gardening projects.

Have a good night... must get ready for bed...

Karen

good night and sleep tight..............good luck with your disability hearings.......not a fun thing..........
