Prolong the life of your cut flowers

I came across these instructions, and thought IF we ever get summer and have some flowers out of our garden to cut, here is a recipe to prolong the life of the flowers.

Add one teaspoon of sugar and 5 drops of bleach to each litre of water. (Sorry I don't know how many litres in a US pint?)
