I thought the torrents would never stop! Half our driveway gravel was washed down to the street below (we're uphill on a hill). The "dry" creek is a roaring white water creek. And this evening people were waiting on the other side of where the creek crosses the road, unable to cross to get home. We discovered our electronic rain gauge needed new batteries and the regular gauge only goes to 5 inches (definitely more than that!), so don't know how much rain we got.

Wow Linda, I hope everyone will be O.K. We haven't had any rain yet.
Stay safe.
Josephine.

We were doing errands all day in San Antonio and got home about 6:30. When DH emptied the rain gauge it was already 5 inches. Before we went to bed he emptied out another 4 inches. I don't remember what he said was in it this morning. I was so tired from hearing the rain I couldn't even eat and then when I got to bed I couldn't sleep. Then rain woke me up at 4 am. I'm just glad we are on high ground.

Yes, high ground is good. With all the road and highway closures this morning, DH had to call and tell them to reschedule his doctor's appointment. But we really haven't been getting much rain since yesterday. Should be getting better.

Several of my cousins around the country phoned, worried that I might be caught in a flood somewhere - news reports were plentiful. What a deluge! Glad I could just hole up at home. I'm up the slope from the creek and altho the street fills fast, it runs off quickly into the drainage ditch the developer thoughtfully installed.

So sad about the young man whose vehicle was trapped against the bridge supports and its windows all broken by the force of the water. His body was found several miles downstream.

Yes, I think I saw that also. I think it said he called his family and said he had had an accident, then the line went dead. Apparently he was in his car in the drainage ditch with a cell phone when he called...before the car hit the bridge. The guy in the tree near Helotes with a cell phone...they were able to get to him eventually. Some guys came by today and started pulling all the trees and debris that were partly blockingthe large drainage pipes where the creek crosses the road near my house. I was glad...I knew we wouldn't be able to do it.

Thinking of you all and saying a prayer that you remain safe and dry.

Since then there were reports of a father/son duo swept away in a pickup; the father's body had been found but still looking for the son. And then the 22-year-old woman in the blue Hummer. Seems especially tragic when they're so young.
