Finally!!!

A cheery Bali Hai Gold. Clare, you mention in the Plant Files that this is slow to open. You are not kidding. I thought I would never see an open flower.

This came from Brad as a rooted cutting.

And Francoise. She did not bloom for me last year and I wasn't sure I would keep her but I'm glad I did.

She is huge and I am having a hard time keeping her hydrated because she is pot bound. Is it wise to root prune and replant while a plumie is blooming?

Just beautiful, Alice! Yay! Congrats on the lovely plumies. That 'Bali Hai Gold' has an unusual fragrance, doesn't it? Kind of spicy, sandlewoodlike maybe -- hard to describe. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing;-)

Thanks Clare, I can't place the fragrance either. I sort of remember it from somewhere, perhaps something from my childhood - or maybe some detergent. LOL
I am just happy it has a scent since Francoise and my white NOID are scentless.

I did not know that about Francoise! And your white too? Darn! I have a few scentless ones too, and every year, I threaten to get rid of them, and then they bloom beautifully and get to stay another year.

I think my Kauka Wilder is probably root bound, too, because I'm having to water it almost twice a day to keep the blooms perky. We've had hot dry winds the last couple of days. I

Alice, I forgot to answer your question! Sure, go ahead and root prune and repot, but I'm sure you'll want to be careful not to knock off blooms, which tends to happen to me when I repot while flowering.

Jackie, it sounds like you need to repot too!

I am repotting also right now. Many of my five-gallons are going straight into 15-gallon containers. I can do this because we still have several more months of warm weather here and the plants are in active growth right now.

Clare, as more flowers opened on Francoise I did notice a very faint scent. I had to literally stick my nose into the cluster to catch it. It is sort of rose like but more of a florest rose not the pretty scent you would find in a garden rose.

ardesia - how much of a root prune were you planning to do? this was my first year root pruning while they were active growth. they were not happy and some of they stalled. some more than others. it didn't kill them of course because they are tough. just use caution. when i transplant now i no longer loosen up the root ball. i just put them in a larger pot with new soil. somehow the roots know to go out into the new soil. just be careful...

i love francoise! she was one of my first from fcn. good pics and thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I haven't gotten around to pruning yet so I will be extra careful and maybe just put it in a larger pot. I have 5 inflos on this plant and I do not want to jeopardize them in any way.

Does your Francoise have any scent?

This is my first flower on Cookstown Sunset and I can pick up the beautiful scent of this one from way across the garden.

Edited to say I just noticed the colors look a little washed out in this picture; they are much more intense in person.

Some of these colors make me think of sorbet! Yum.
Don't ya hate it when the camera/pc/printer don't capture the colors? There are ways to calibrate them, but it's a hassle I'm not ready for. :-)

Beautiful! Alice, I always carefully loosen the roots at the bottom when I repot, and some get broken, but I've never seen any ill effects of this. This is what you are supposed to do when repotting. I do, however, use Vitamin B-1 after transplanting to lessen any transplant shock, but I've honestly never seen any transplant shock from my plumerias. However, if you are going to do severe root pruning, then you may see a slow down as Dete suggested.

Edited to fix spelling;-)

ardesia - my francoise is in plumie heaven...

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Oh, how sad. You have my sympathy.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Ardesia, your plumies are fantabulistic! ;-)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL, Thanks, but I know very little about them and last year they drove me crazy by not blooming at all. They are making up for it this year.
