Someone on our walking route has this plant amongst some others around their mailbox, making a pretty display. It's a vine with feathery foliage with a small pink or red tubular flower. I don't know if it's a wild plant or not, since I also found some on the edge of a vacant lot in our complex, where I picked this sample. Anybody know what it is?
Vining plant with tiny tubular pink flower, ID help please!
I was immediately interested in perhaps having this twine around our mailbox until I read that all parts are poisonous. I'm afraid our neighborhood cats might be tempted to chew on it.
June
it comes up freely from seed... in grass, beds, pots, anywhere the seeds fall, but not too hard to control. it grows like there is no tomorrow. if you dont let some seeds fall, it won't come up next year. keep that in mind if you like it, i do! in SC it is not surprising to find one in the wild.
Thia vine is a real hummingbird magnet. I wonder where the info indicating "all parts of the plant are poisonous" came from? I was suprised by that so I Googled it and there is no mention of toxicity in any of the entries I searched. This is Floridata's entry.

Ardesia and Xerantheum, please ignore the part of my d-mails asking if I should plant the seeds now, I just read the Floridata link more closely and see how quickly the seeds sprout and the plant grows!! We still have a lot of summer left, think I'll start some tomorrow!!! Thanks everyone for your help!!
The only "toxicity" present is that it would be a laxative and purgative. Dogs and cats leave it alone.
A lot of plants that are considered poisonous aren't really that bad. Like MG's. MG's will get you stoned from what I've heard. Won't kill you or anything.
Thanks everyone!!! I'm going to plant some, it's pretty and I'll do anything for my butterflies and hummers!
