Flies!

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Hello all... we've been traveling for a week or so (had DS taking care of pond and house), and came home to a bazillion flies in and around our pond. While pulling out a few dead lily leaves, I noticed that there are literally hundreds of baby flies all over the lilies and other plants in the pond. Anyone know how to make them stop???!!! We do have koi, goldfish, and turtles, as well as lots of pond plants, so I don't want to hurt anything else, just the flies. They are so thick that it is unpleasant to sit at the pond! Help!

Thanks in advance,

Brenda

What kind of flies, little tiny ones, big house fly type? Are they showing a definite preference for the lilies or any particular pond plant? Or the pond in general? Do you see any larvae or eggs on the undersides of any leaves. Can you rent a giant frog? Just kidding. I've got quite an infestation of tiny little black flys taking a real interest in the water lilies. However, I am in a much cooler zone than yours and there are probably zonal/regional differences in the insects ponds attract.
