Bunion Surgery Gone Awry

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

Found out Tuesday that the bunion surgery I had Jan. 27 not only failed but has left me permanently crippled. The bone did not heal correctly which caused the big toe to be too short and now I "push off" with the second toe. That is painful and will cause me to have surgery eventually on the second toe because it is contracting from the imbalance. No fix for this. The doctor who did it says the bone realigment slid out during healing because I was a smoker. Problem is I havn't smoked since 1976! That's right - 1976! I get the feeling he screwed up. I am heading to a foot and ankle clinic in a another city which is operated by a School of Podiatric Medicine and the doctor with whom I managed to get an appointment with is a teaching member of the faculty. Maybe he can tell me what really happened and what I can do about it, if anything. I guess I'm posting this because I'm kind of in a state of shock.
