I purchased this begonia over two months ago and it seemed to do fine for several weeks. Then the heat really increased so I brought it in the house and put it in a bright South facing window. It has started losing leaves more and more. I thought maybe it was a humidity problem so I put it on a tray of wet pebbles. Still no Improvement. Should I get a terrarium to put it in? I am running out of ideas and it is declining rapidly.
Begonia Soli-mutata Help
Put a cover over it and see if that helps. Mine did that last winter until I covered it with a salad container you get at the grocery store. This one should never dry out.
I second the cover idea. Also check the papery bracts at the leaf axils for mealies. They hide and can sometimes cause the symptoms of losing leaves and general unhealthy effect.
OK I have an update... I got a larger glass bowl with a small opening at the top. I have put the pebble tray in the bowl and placed the plant on top of the pebbles. I then took some saran wrap and covered the top. I have placed it in my greenhouse and we will just see how things developed. BTW there were no mealies.
Just thought I would share with you guys the status of my begonia. I went out to the green house last night and noticed that it is starting to put on new leaves. I am so excited that the bowl is working! Thanks for all of the advice. I will post a picture when it gets looking a lot better.
