Crossed Billed Rooster

Bristol, NH

I e-mailed earier this spring about a young rooster developing a crossed bill. After reading advice about solutions such as cutting the beak we adopted a wait and see strategy.Well he has adapted very well to his handicap. He free ranges during the day with the others , eats well and if very fit looking. We don't intend to breed him so his "bad" characteristic won't be past on. He is a very handsome Salmon Faverole and he and his 2 brothers are eye candy for sure. The lesson we learned is don't rush to judgement too quickly. Jane31

Curious if your cross beak came from Ideal Hatchery?

I ordered 3 salmon favorelles in the spring from them. One had a terrible cross beak which could not be altered. One was dead on arrival from the hatchery and the other died shortly thereafter.

My opinion was it was bad stock since all three ended up dead.

EEEcks! I have a Salmon Faverolle pullet on the way from Ideal!

Bristol, NH

We got them from someone on Freecyle wanting to get rid of too many chicks of different breeds. He was moving so I don't know where he got them. There were 9 Salmon Faveroles, all roosters, and the rest were fine. I hope you have better luck next time.Jane31
