A walk around the place 2007

Louisville, KY

I walked around today and took some pics of some new Canna hybrids and a bit of the landscape this year. With the late frost and drought this has been one of the roughest years for me to grow.

Canna Candy Shadow. Not sure yet if this name is going to stick to this plant. I have been using it until it is released. Dark dark foliage with neon pink flowers. Reminds me of a australias with pink flowers.

I have been watering daily but with this heat it has still made a lot of leaves crispy.

New Macrorrhiza hybrid not yet released. Gets really big with good tough leaves. I grow it out all summer out in the ground.

A very interesting hybrid I made a few years ago. This one has flowers that change from pink to orange and yellow. Usually depending on the age of each flower. Not to mention the leaves tend to change as well from dark bronze to green with maroon veins. This year it has been a little different acting I think due to the heat and lack of water.

Really impressed with the Candy Shadow....have been leaning toward the advancement of pink blooms on colored/variegated foliage. That one is a beauty, it looks like a true pink with no peach or orange undertone. Good job!

That is amazing Brian. I love that Rock wall.

Once again your gardens and rock wall is amazing. I am always in awe of your talent. I love the cannas. I think the last one that the leaves change to green with maroon veins is really cool. How tall is it?

The canna reflective shadows usually stays around 4 to 5 feet tall. The flowers come out pink then turn yellow sometimes they are a light orange inbetween this period. One of the odd balls out of my breeding program to produce more unusual foliage forms.

Beautiful pictures Brian, your stuff looks a lot better than my stuff does. All of the daylilies are going dormant. I am watering every day too, but I think it evaporates as soon as it hits the sizzling dirt in the beds--lol-- 106 here today.

Here are a few pics of some of the new Colocasia hybrids I have been breeding. Some are showing some cool leaves. But not sure yet what they are going to do until they are mature.

Bw,

Your gardens are stunning! I love the Colocasia Gigantea! They are massive. Can they take the full sun?
I planted some regular colocasia from bulbs this year and they are wonderful. (see pic) Although the snails have found them, working on that.

I love the coloring on that Musa Siam. Is it going to be a hardy one? It sure is pretty.
