beautiful pic Cat. Still not having to many BF here yet. Was getting some but the unbelievable heat and humidity they seem to have dissappeared. I have lost 3 of my Mandarin Ducks. 2 last week and one saturday afternoon ;-( has been 100 with 85% humidity. Going to start chaning there pool everyday about midday when it is the hottest so they have cold water. DH put some silver reflective padding on top of the cage since the shade cloth isn't enough

Nice photo Cat!

Sorry to hear about your Mandarins Donna, was it due to the heat?

Not too many butterflies here, if I do see one...it's way to hot to have 'a go at it'. LOL

Sorry to hear about the ducks Donna.

The heat out here is unbearable at times too. I must be nuts for being out in the fields at high noon butterflying :o)

We usually have several handfuls of buckeyes flitting about but have never seen a caterpillar, let alone an egg. Was excited to find this mating pair though.

Cat~ It would be cool to stumble onto their host and find some.. I'm sure hoping you do.
What a great shot!

Deb...plantago grows wild out at the ranch. Of course, the back fields are also overgrown with grass and weeds and other native hosts. I've seen plenty of plantain but nary an egg or caterpillar. Will look closer once the weather cools off.

Cat the Green Shrimp is for the Buckeyes too isn't it??? Don't forget to check that too.

Thanks for the heads up Donna. I am still in the process of working on the pond. The area around it is once again overgrown with grass and weeds that are hip high. Don't want to mow it as there is also waltheria indica, ragweed and other larval host plants growing in the mix. Sigh....

Am thinking I will drag an old tractor tire out there and fill it with soil and fill each with a specific larval host...like green shrimp plant, milkweed, aristolochia etc. I need more time, more money and some big strapping men to do the manual labor :o)
