I just have to ask if you all have ever seen a chirita put on a baby plant???????? Since I am new to this family, what do I do with her .............or nothing at all. I lose the names to everything i have..........but does it look like 'kazu'?

I don't know if that chirita is Kazu or not but I can tell you that chiritas can and do sucker....some more than others. I had one called Stardust that was a large muli-crowned plant that I let grow that way.

If you want, you can remove your offset and root it for a new plant. Should slice away very easily.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

thanks and how cute is that..................My Stardust is getting ready to bloom so I just took a look at her and she has multiple crowns............I just didn't know it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I am just going to let both of them grow that way and see how big they get..........

I'm late to the party, of course, but had to drop in and say I love the pictures! Chiritas are so great! Yours look so soft and fuzzy, Gail! LOL And the bloom on yours is a beauty, Eunice. 'Silver Surfer' is teasing me with a bud and I can hardly wait for it to open!

Snowrose, that Pentadenia is amazing! I love the red tips on it! That's the one that gets pink berries, right?

Your Strep is huge and gorgeous, Eunice! Is that 'Jason'? It's one of my favorites!

Homosassa, FL(Zone 9a)

yes its jason,came from snowrose
i couldn't belive how big it was when she sent it to me.

Well, it's certainly a beauty! You must be taking wonderful care of it. :o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Why can Snowrose grow everything to be beautiful????????? Not fair (LOL).............I am beginning to suspect she has a hidden greenhouse inside her house (laffin')

(Zone 1)

Yes Gail .... I agree! Snowrose's plants are always so very healthy! I think she's got it! The "it" being the perfect Green Thumb, the perfect growing environment .... the perfect"Touch"!!

I know my problem is having waaay too many plants! If I would just concentrate on a few of each kind maybe I would do better. But, when it comes to plants, I'm like a little kid .... I see something new and interesting that I don't have and I just Gotta have it! LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

wanna hear me whining?????????????? I wanted to scrub the mexican tile floors on the front porch so i put all the pots on the east side of the house thinking that they could use a little sun........................I scorched all of them!!!!!!!!

This morning I got out with a dolly and moved them all under a tree............but it is so hot I couldn't stay out in the heat to cut them back.............we are dealing with triple digit temperatures and today and tomorrow we are expected to have the hottest days of the year so far.

Well, if it's anything like we've been having, you'd better keep yourself in the house! It makes me sick to my stomach and I get a headache when I'm outside in heat like this. I'm thinking that's why Victorian women had fainting couches - not because of their delicate nature, but because of the blasted heat! I've not done a thing outside in quite a few days. It's awful! I did get out a bit this morning, and my husband and I watered some things, but it's already 82 out, so I'm done outside for the day.

(Zone 1)

Yeah, I hear y'all. It's 89 degrees out already! I think most of the country is suffering from this heatwave! I have been so amazed when I get up in the middle of the night and push the button on our thermostat to see the outdoor temperature and it's at 82 or 84 at 2:00 a.m.!! Hubby and I were talking about it yesterday and he can't remember ever having such a hot summer and he's been in Florida since before he was a year old. I know we've had really hot summers in the past but it's been a long, long time since we've experienced high 90's with heat indexes of 110!! I do yardwork every Thursday and last week I mowed at about 8:30 in the morning so I wouldn't have to be out in the hottest part of the day! I just feel blessed that we air conditioning. Some places in the country are having this extreme heat and some of those folks don't have air conditioner's ... the young and elderly are at risk in heat like this. There was an article in our newspaper yesterday about an overcrowded elderly boarding home in Tampa where authorities said residents had been without air for two days in windowless rooms furnished with bunk beds with an outside heat index of 104! I can just imagine what the inside temp must have been! One 86 yr old woman was found unresponsive on the floor! They arrested a 36 year old woman charging her with 18 counts of neglect to the elderly or disabled. She's out on bail. This woman was licensed to run an adult family care home but it was on the other side of town and one of the rules was she was supposed to live there herself! Oh, when I read about something like that it makes me soooo MAD!!! I wish they could take that woman and lock her in a cell with no window and no fan and no air! Just for two hours! Well .... I really don't mean that. I know two wrongs don't make a right. The article said several state & local agencies are investigating the case since she runs several businesses on opposite sides of the city. (Tampa is a large city!) It is just so sad that a human being would treat other human beings like that. Unfortunately the elderly are exploited every day. And it's especially true of those who have no family left to look after them.

Well ... I'm done ranting. Must go to the grocery store! Y'all have a nice day!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I mean it when I say that my response is to lock her up in a room with no air and leave her there...............no apologies made on my part................the elderly are to be revered!!!!!!!!!

(Zone 1)

Yep ... I remember when my Dear MIL lived in Assisted Living Facility less than a mile from us. I was over there every single day, sometimes three times a day and it galled me to see some of the residents asleep in their wheelchairs in a drugged stupor! That changed when new administrator's took over which was wonderful. They hired more aides to help the residents and didn't keep a lot of them on heavy meds like that anymore! But, some of the residents had family members who live locally and only would visit on Holiday's, if then! I often wondered how someone could treat their parent, or relative like that. I spent time playing Bingo with them, baking cookies, going out to lunch, or just sitting and having coffee and chatting with them. Some were slow in walk, some slow in speech because of stroke, some had dementia .... but what joy it brought them to just have a visitor! So many of the ladies always would say how lucky Salley (my MIL) was to have me. I always said I was the lucky one to have her. She lived to be 97 and what an inspiration. I learned so much from her. For some reason in our culture today, the elderly are not revered much. So much can be learned our elderly. In some instances they are the "forgotten" generation. And, that is so sad.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I am in agreement with you Lin, and Gail.

Before my injury, I was a medic in the Fire Dept, and I responded to 9-1-1 calls. Some of the things I've seen in the summer when the temps are like they are now... it's unbelievable! The elderly without AC... when you know it's 104 outside, and you walk in her apt and feel the WALL of heat that hits you at the door... it tears my heart out. Then we have the Goodwill agency... and they hire those that have various disabilities. Two years ago, our other unit responded there during one of these same hot spells... a young man, 20's or 30's, with MR, found unresponsive... they got him to the hospital and his core temperature was over 107!!!

It'll blow you away what you see in the streets!

Not only are the elderly in our society not revered, but neither are our military men and women, that are coming back with injuries and life-long disabilities. Shame!

Karen

(Zone 1)

Karen,

I am in total agreement with you. In our society the elderly and our men & women in uniform are not respected or revered as they are in other cultures. Times sure have changed, and sometimes progress and change are not for the better.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I am in total agreement about this heat and humidity. Had to laugh at what you said, raingazer...Victorian fainting couches! Can you imagine having to wear corsets cinched in and those clothes on top of it all?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

My mother wouldn't even go to the grocery store except in a dress with hose and corset!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine in this heat.............I haven't worn either in years except to a formal affair........................go to church in slacks............and bermudas to shop!!!!!!!!!

(Zone 1)

Whew .... I cannot imagine! I don't know how women did it back in those days! Down here in Florida folks even wear shorts and flip flops to church! I could never be that casual for church .... guess I am from a different generation. I truly like the idea that God doesn't care how you look to go to Worship but I just couldn't bring myself to walk into a church with shorts and flip flops on! Has a lot to do with my age I'm sure.

Oh Gail .... down here I have seen a few people shopping in their bathing suits! Here in Florida some people are real laid back.
