I was sitting in a chair and saw a hummingbird going for my Zowie Zinnas and I snapped this picture. He was gone instantly. It is not a great shot ,as I was far away and do not have a great zoom on my camera. But I am excited---my first picture of a hummingbird and I am certain I will frame it.

Did you see the pictures I posted under the Butterfly Forum of the three that have been in my yard in the past few days and all of them are going to the Zowies, including the Goldfinch. I will plant Zowies again next year for sure!!!

Thanks Lucy, I truly love the Zowie Zinnas. I think a lot of people hesitate to plant zinnas because of mildew problems but these Zowies have not had any mildew on them for the two years I have grown them. I looked at them last night and they are still producing a lot of new buds, so I hope they will continue to bloom through September. I purchased the Zowie seeds from Burpee and started them under lights last March. I had good germination. They are hybrids so don't expect the seedlings from the plants to have the same flowers as the original plants. I started some seedings a few weeks ago from my plants and hopefully they will bloom before frost and it will be interesting to see what the flowers look like. I will post a picture.
