I didn't know what title would best grab attention but I could use any opinions I can get so thanks for reading!
I'd like to start planting bulbs in pots with nice foil wrappers as gifts for loved ones and for reselling a few. I am leaning towards Asiatic lilies since I've had these before in the yard and just love them. Recently saw the tulip bulbs at Sam's Club and am considering these also. They are 100 tulip bulbs for like $13.
Would you please recommend a place to buy bulbs for a good price? Doesn't have to be the cheapest, I want good customer service and delivery to....just need a good resource.
Also, how quickly do bulbs divide? I was only able to have the Asiatics one year before I moved. I know they had a long bloom time....bit concerned I've heard Tulips have a short bloom cycle? Tips from you masters please!
Best price on bulbs?
van engelen or john scheepers. van engelen is "wholesale" division of john scheepers.
no price difference on some items like lilies though. i've search and looked for cheaper but as far as value, selection and customer service i haven't found any better. I use them as a 'reference' if you will. some sources might have a cheaper price, but when you compare bulb size, they're not so cheap. the "landscape" bulbs you see are usually cheaper but they are a smaller bulb. some smaller bulbs might take 2 seasons before they mature. if you want "perennial" tulips you might try darwins, greigii, triumph, and of course 'species'. tulip propagation is best left to the dutch. tulips like to bake in the summer. a tulip seed can take 7 yrs before flowering size in the right conditions baby bulbs can take up to 5 yrs to flower.
I have gotten generously sized bulbs from Dutch Bulbs mailorder. Usually you can get end of the season specials if you get on their e-mail lists.
Thank-you both for the recommendations!
