Spanish and French Lavenders

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi! Everybody!! This is the fifth growing season that I have had my lavenders (French and Spanish). They have formed woody stems instead of the soft green ones mostly. Does this mean that I have overwatered or does it mean that the plants are older and need to be replaced? Do Lavenders grow from cuttings? Does anyone know where I can get a recipe for lavender soap?

Thanks,

Have a good day!!

I don't think you did anything wrong, as the plants get older they will develop woody stems. If they're still flowering and still looking healthy then there's nothing to worry about. If they're not flowering well, then just give them a good trimming. If you had been overwatering, they'd probably be dead already or at least looking unhealthy, the woody stems don't have anything to do with watering.

You can start them from cuttings, but I imagine that the newer greener growth would root easier than the older woody stems.

Chuck - ecrane is right!! Over watered Lavender, simply put, die. I have it all over the place - lavender's my all time favorite scent. It will get quite woody if not pruned - some types more then others.
