Yes they are! The little black things are the seeds! Congrats! I've started them inside in February and got them to bloom before frost in fall. Very nice bush of them Jadajoy!

Thanks AuntB,
So I should wait till spring? I really wanted to plant some of them now. Hey, want some?

Thanks Joyce, I have 2 bushes of the red one. I think you could, I'm not sure if you need to protect them in winter, or if the young plant would winter over...I'm in 5b, I would have to grow them inside all winter and set out in the spring. I gathered some this time of year a couple years ago and started in early early spring inside.

Good advice.. it would probably be best to wait till spring. My big one dies and comes back but I have soooooo many seeds I might try a few and see what happens. The growing season here lasts till november.

Thanks so much!

You can keep them in pots and grow during the winter inside in a south window.... I would make sure the seeds are very dry and try a few. Keep any unused in the frig - making sure they are dry first.

AuntB,

I was told to overwinter in a north window?? I dont know which window gets the most sun in winter. My house faces North.

About keeping the seeds in the frig.......Why???

I guess you can tell I'm new at this :-). I usually just buy seeds and this year is the first I've tried harvesting. I have brown paper bags of seeds I've collected and wondering if they all should go in the frig. I usually keep them in a big old cookie tin . So I should dry them and then store in frig till spring?

Thanks for your help, this is amazing to me to be able to find the seeds and propagate that way and so much cheaper too!

Amanda,
Glad the pic helped you too! It might seem obvious to some experienced garderners but sometimes I dont know what the seed looks like and I had so many I thought this cant be it! Each of those little flower heads has about 50 seeds in it and I have about 30 heads so thats..............A LOT!

That is what is great about DG, it's so educational and informative. I'm keep mine in frig as I think it keeps them "fresher" and maybe the seeds are more viable... some seeds need to be cold or even frozen to "activate" them. I'm not an expert, just experienced with some plants. South windows will give the most light.

Such a big pretty bush. Good luck with your seeds. You should have tons of colorful plants of this next year.

Your place will be alive with color from all your hibiscus next year. A row of them would be so striking.

Brugie,
Thats what I was thinking, a nice row along a fence. Hope they take off from these seeds :-).
