they stopped at so many flowers, agastache, sweet peas, morning glory, snail vine, glads, crocosmia. 2 were chasing each other all over.

deb-- I can see the hummingbirds must be in heaven in your garden! So many beautiful blooms to choose from! (And did you grow the lobelia from seed?)

Let's see some more pics of the Hummingbird favorites?!? And tell us about your garden please!?!

I posted a show and tell in the garden design forum - I don't know how to make a link to it here?
Do I just copy and paste the address?
or I could put a couple of the pics here.

I didn't grow the lobelia from seed - haven't tried much from seed yet, but want to try some winter sowing this year. I also bought a BF cage from live monarch - so another interest has bloomed

To post a link just copy and paste the address into your post (to add it to an existing post just click on 'edit' ).

Be sure to leave a space or two before and after your link -- somehow leaving the spaces makes it work.

Debilu: Great shots! Our hummers seem to ignore the lobelia and go for the red and the blue salvia, which are about 10 ft away. Don't know why. I planted the lobelia just for them. How inconsiderate. :)

Great pics! You must be pretty quick to get those action shots!

I know, there is just no accounting for what those hummingbirds go for! Last year I went crazy trying to plant just the right red flowers for them and they completely ignored them and went solely for the feeders (as far as I could tell). This year the only plant I saw them nectaring on was a 'volunteer' little green nicotiana that was hidden underneath some phlox! Go figure!

I was insulted, too! I guess I shouldn't take these things so personally!

Deb, your flowerbed is gorgeous. What a wealth of food for hummers and butterflies. And I like the logs, too. I have several logs, big and small, in my flowerbeds. I really like the looks of them.

Deb, your place is beautiful. : ) I wouldn't change a thing. I loved your monarda,...so bright and pretty. I've never seen red around here. Did you grow it from seeds?

thanks to everyone's kind words!

Lucy - I got the monarda thru mail order. The hummers do like it. I'm moving it closer to the deck near the lobelia. I thought I could do rows of red near the deck, but didn't realize how tall the lobelia would grow, so it kind of flopped this year. A big clump of lobelia with the monarda and a red hibiscus is what I'm thinking right now....

Carla - I went to my sisters one day and they had cut down a tree, so before they had it all cut up, I told them I wanted to make a little tree bistro. They both looked a me a little funny, but my B-I-L cut them to my preference, loaded my car and sent me off.
They both thought it was cute once they saw it, and now my neice wants one for her garden.

Deb, you don't happen to remember what the name of that monarda was, do you?

cambridge scarlet - it does get a bit of powdery mildew - and I have recently read there are more disease resistant types.

Ok, thanks Deb. : )

One of mine has some kind of wilt thing going on. It might have something viral because of the rain we have been having. Doesn't seem to be too wet tho. Starts wilting at the tips and moves right on down the stem. I don't see mildew on it tho.
