Lost two Polish babies to 105 temps!

Here I go again with sad news! I noticed all my chickens were beginning to show signs of stress with the High temperatures here! I started letting them range a little longer in the evening , just so they could get under the shade trees and roll in the cooler leafy areas of the yard! Most of my birds have their coops under a huge birch tree and are fine, they stay at least 10 degrees cooler than the the coop attached on the side of the barn. I usually spray it down wit water and smaller tree above it to create a water mist for them!

Six days ago I saw that my only two black Polish babies were sneezing as well as trying to hold their wings out to keep cool! then they just decided not to even try and move any longer! They would just lay down and hold their wing s out! I took them both to the cooler area . They seemed to do better but the sneezing got worse . they were both eating and drinking and doing their chicken thing! Then day before yesterday I found one dead then the other sat down and refused to eat and today he is gone! Sooooo sad!
So be careful everyone, try to keep your Chicks ventilated and cool as best as possible!

I'm sorry about your loss. Darn heat is sure rough on them. Not quite sure I understand about the sneezing though.

Maybe they were sick already?

It is certainly hot down there. Take care of yourself, too, Eufaula! Don't forget!!

Could you try bathing them all ? Is that crazy? It would cool them down....

Hey All,

Tracey , I got home late last night! I went to do some shopping after we hung up on the phone . I was surprised to find not one but Two messages from you! Yes I will try the fish hook thing in the egg! That sounds like it just might work! But Im sure now that the eggs are all gone it probably wont come back! Snakes are sneaky like that!

Jab and BYH, I was confused by the Sneezing too! Couldnt figure it out! I guess they may have just gotten Humid Heat Pneumonia! I know Our Alpine goats would get so sick in the humid summer heat and start sneezing and Wheezing! Antibiotics all around! But when we crosssed the Alpines with our Nubians , we never had another problem. Nubians are from the arid heat of the African desert and Alpines from the coolness of the mountains , so the crosses were better adapted to both humidity and heat as well as cooer winter weather. I guess my two little polish guys just couldn't take the High heat and humidity!

I missed the snake post. Did you try fake eggs. I've heard they will swallow fake eggs and either be too big around to get back out the way they came into the coop or die from not being able to digest it.
