Common Bronzewing

Churchill, Victoria, Australia(Zone 10a)

We have this beautiful pigeon, the Common Bronzewing (Phaps chalcoptera) who is not uncommon in this area, but does not often visit our garden.
Today this male came onto our patio, walking about looking for seed and then flew up onto the back of a seat, to give me a lovely chance for a picture.
In the right light, those bronze feathers in its wing coverts have a lovely metallic glint, but it is a very dull day today.

I am a pigeon and sea gull fan - that one is a beauty!

When the Bronzewing had left, we put out fresh seed in the hope of attracting it again. A little later I found this flock of tiny little Red-browed Finches (Neochmia temporalis) had quickly found the seed.

Here is a closer shot of the finches, taken previously, having a drink from our bird bath

Then a little later still a couple of Crimson Rosellas (Platycercus elegans) moved in to take a share of the seed. Here is one Crimson Rosella:

I am in awe - such incredible colors . . . not to mention the photography . . . thanks so much for sharing, most of us would never get to see these varieties if it weren't for your photos.

It would be a treat to be able to look outside and see such colorful birds!
