Need ID Please

Athens, OH

A friend picked this up at the Columbus Flower Show.

I just put it in the ground, so it is showing a little fatigue right now. Hopefully it will perk up again soon.

PS Also got a Coffee Cups. Yeah!!!!!!

Hey rox,
The Beautiful Alocasia you've got is a Ridleyi. They are a somewhat small grower but an eye catcher.

How tall does Ridleyi get?
My plant is about 2.5 feet tall, when it isn't wilting.

See Above.

I went to the International Aroid Society website (a great site: http://www.aroid.org/).

To me, the EE looks more like A. princeps groups (although the stem is less ticked). http://www.aroid.org/genera/alocasia/group_princeps/Alocasia%20sp%20group%20princeps%202%20Danny%20Hervelle.jpg

than A, Ridleyi

Ideas?
Still think it's Ridleyi?

I'm still betting on the ridleyi. some time the looks of the plant change from IAS pics. to real life. such as: if you look at the IAS version of the Alocasia infernalis and the agri-starts version of the same plant they look completely different. So that is probably the case here, i'm sure your plant is from culture, and so is mine.

I think they maybe right it looks to be Alo. ridleyi. Much like any other group. I have found that alocasias have tons of forms. Loweii have hundreds of forms all similar all different in ways. This one is easily to get now from TC I have a ton of it thought it does seem to rot easy. Best to keep it dry.

Rita/Brian-
Thanks for your help.

Sorry to disagree Brian :-) but I think its probabay A. scabriuscula. A ridleyi is a more delicate-looking thing.

The pic of "princeps" in the link above is incorrectly identified. I don't know what the pic is of though....

Your ID of A. scabriuscula does look to be right. Now it makes me wonder if the TC labs have it mislabled?

As for princeps this was from an Hawaiian grower with the tag as princeps. I don't think I was able to get a ID on it other than that. Any idea what it might be?

Also do you plan to go to the aroid show this year? Thanks for the corrections. Still learning!

I think I still am going to have to go with the Ridleyi just be cause of the size... i Have both plants in my collection and the ridleyi blooms ant about two foot, but my scabriuscula is at four and has never bloomed. They both look kind of alike, but the pic i posted above is of the Ridley and i have to say it looks pretty close...

Well the plot thickens.
It is finally recovering, so I'll see if it continues to grow or tops out at 2.5 feet.

PS Forgive me my ignorance but is A. scabriuscula the same as A. Robusta?

PPS. Couldn't resist it. Here are two more no IDs I picked up in Kauai from an abandoned garden.

#1. This might be too young to ID. It is now ~1.5 feet high.

#2 Looks a lot like A. cucullata to me but some differences from the one I bought in the US.
