Don't know much so where do you look for the eggs of butterflies or should I be looking for a cat.? I don't even know what I am looking for. The only butterflies I see are some white ones and a couple of red and black.
Where to look
Makshi, it depends on the bf...some lay their eggs on top of the leaf, some on the bottom. Do you have a book on butterflies? There's a sticky at the top of this forum that lists some good books with pics of eggs and host plants, caterpillars...lost of good info.
You should probably first find out what their host plants are and then go from there.
I agree with fly_girl, you need to find the host plants first. Or better yet, plant some in your yard. In my experience, if any specific butterfly is within a mile of your house, it will find its host plant if you plant them in your backyard. You could wait for a long time if you only plant nectaring plants. In your area, you should have monarchs, black swallowtails, giant swallowtails, and variegated fritillaries, just to name a few. These use the following as host plants: monarchs - milkweeds; black swallowtails - fennel, parsley, dill, carrot; giant swallowtails - citrus, rue; variegated frittilaries - passion vines. Plus there are probably many others in your area. I have the Kaufman Butterflies of North America book, and recommend it highly. It lists the larval foodplants for all the species.
Good luck!
