Kona bloom drops off....

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I have been watching this wonderful ( I thought) Kona bud as it got fatter and fatter.

Thinking it would for sure be open this morning, I went out and it had fallen off. Sob!!!

There is another one now, I sure hope it makes it. What do you think happened?

Maybe it is just too hot. I've had some drop in this mid 90 degree heat. Our high winds didn't help either. LOL!

I was wondering about the heat. We have been over 100 with pretty stiff winds.

You guys are killin' me with all the pretty flowers.

Now my Peppermint Star's bud has fallen off. I just KNOW I am doing SOMETHING wrong.

I would glady stop doing it if I just knew what it was. LOL

Susan,
Don't think you are doing anything wrong. We are ALL experiencing alot of bud drop, except maybe Karen (snark, snark). It is the high heat and lack of rain. Just plain nature.

Or, it could be thrips :(

I've had lots of bud drop myself and it's "only" been in the low to mid-90's here. Y'all seem to have had more heat than we have here. We're also 15" below in rainfall. I water about everyday, but nothing takes the place of rainwater!
I'm new to DG, so...Hi!

Hi Barbie, welcome to the hibiscus forum!! You'll find lots of good information and loads of fun people :-)

Kittymom, I'm sure, like Cat said, it's just the heat and lack of rain. In So California we've had a record low rainfall this year - like less than 2" for the whole year, I think.

Okay, snarky Ms. Cat!! For YOUR information (lol), I've had lots of bud drop too, sadly :-( It's 5:30 here now, and still over 100. All today's blooms have withered and died...My Velvet Rose Brug is beginning her first flush of blooms and I wonder if they're even gonna open in these fit-for-hades temperatures.

Just for you though, here's a bloom I forgot to post earlier on the daily thread (sticking out tongue!!!), Creme de Cacao...My next week's blooms probably won't look so good though, since I'm finally going back to work.

Hi Barb. Welcome to Dave's Garden. This is a fun place to share and learn. I'm still in the learning phase but will share pictures when I can. Last week, we finally had some good rains. I've been lucky to not have much bud drop. Most of those that drop are on the ground because I bumped them. We have been hot, but right now it is 74 and we had a beautiful, cool, but gray day. Any day in August that is in the 70's is a wonderful change from the norm.

Hi Barb,
Welcome and enjoy. No blooms for me today, although Plum made an appearance yesterday.
Karen,
You are killing me with your browns. You know those are my favs. Creme is absolutely stunning!

You know I wouldn't feel so bad if I had actually seen either one of these bloom.

They are new for me this year from Logees. And the bud gets so fat and promising. LOL

I'm all ready to break out the camera for this magnificent bloom and NOOOOOOOOO, it's laying on the ground. sob!!
