LINDA!!! Oh my how lovely! They are huge! What is the square Alocasia pot made of? Looks very cool. Cute "flower bed" too! I HAVE to get a greenhouse..

We had so much rain at the first of the season that most of my ears are left in there pots. I did get some planted in the ground. But that will make it much better when fall comes, I will have less to dig.

I'm going to try planting some regular ones and a Pink China and see if I can winter over - (I AM a zone-pusher)... I just can't dig much anymore (bad knees). Really makes me angry, too. It's been a strange year for horticulture in Ks, I think.

Here is a picture of the wooden planter from last year. These are Wally World EE's. But it shows the planter better. My girl friends husband made it for me. I think they were 2x2's and it has 7 sides. It took me and my husband a while to get it filled with soil.

I have the Pink China and this is my third year. I water them very good every day and feed weekly but they don't seem to grow very tall. I would say they are only about 20 inches high. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. The first winter I covered them real good with folded newspaper and straw. This last winter I didn't cover at all and they came back. Give them a try you may be surprised.

I had a regular EE I transplanted the spring of 2006 and never tug it up or covered it at all, and I couldn't believe when I found it coming up through the ground. It's not real big but it survived last winter. It's out in the open with no wind break at all.

Very clever... I made a rectangular planter out of left-over treated 2X6 a few years ago; 2 scoops of dirt from a bobcat bucket, some sand & cotton burr mulch and vwa/la - not so instant planter... but I got to use power tools! I did line it with black plastic. Lucky I knew a guy with equipment and dirt. Those ears seem to love yours.

I'll have to read up on PC, I've got one in a pot that is getting pretty big and putting out bright red runners. I just guide them to the ground and hope I'll get a couple babies to fuss with this winter... I have it in part a.m. sun to p.m. shade. I visited Bwilliams jungle earlier this year and he encouraged me to get some in the ground, of course his zone is 7, but I still want to try.....er, maybe I should just move down south..

That's what I keep telling my husband. We have both our boys located near Houston, one in Kingwood, and the other in Sugar Land.

Nice ee's and nice picture.

Actually, I'm at a point in my life I'm ready for a change, but I have a pretty good job, here. 1 adult daughter living with me, 1 on her own in KC and my son is about to start college at K-state. If I could keep my job, I'd seriously consider it. Drew might need to switch colleges, as I haven't completey untied the apron strings on him, yet... but it would be great not to move my big pots in and out each season.

Yea K-State. I am retired and my husband is semi retired only works 4 days a week. When I start getting my retirement check from federal he says he will retire for good. I asked him what he plans on doing, he said hanging around bugging me. I told him he wasn't going to retire if that is what he has on his mind. He just laughed. I don't know if I could bear to have him around 7 days a week. Sometimes 3 straight days drives me up the wall. And I was retired first. That should mean something.

I don't have one of those husband thingys, anymore :) Been divorced for 12 years. Just got out of an 8 year relationship due to trust issues...Does he take interest in your plants? Does he have interests of his own? I hope to know a man with my interests: family, plants, traveling, music. I think everyone needs some solitude once in a while. Maybe he will surprise you.

He does a lot of bass fishing. That will keep him busy in the summer, and yes he will work out in the garden and yard as long as the weather stays out of the triple digits. But when there is snow on the ground type of weather he will be on my computer playing Texas Holdem. Then what will I do?? I could send him out to the GH.

Hmmmm, woodshop? 2 computers?

I like your way of thinking.

Well, I think everyone deserves their own "thing" but as a couple it is nice to enjoy things together, also. The ex BF liked working and flying his airplane and money. Work is okay, I mean I like to eat and have a roof over my head, if I'm flying, it's to go somewhere, not do touch and goes... I'm a little freakish about flying, but I tried with him many times and never said "NO" I will not fly with you anymore..... it's a lot different in a private plane. I don't have a lot of money, enough that I'm comfortable and don't use the calculator at the grocery store, but there won't be a lot left when I die, cause I'm spending it and enjoying life. He likes his houseplants, but never took an interest in my garden/flowers. Didn't want to travel cause he never enjoyed it when he was married... well, guess he never took a trip with me, cause I'm fun! Darn, why hasn't someone snatched me up? They get to have their time, I get to have mine but yet we enjoy things together... (sounds magical, huh?) lol
