Still hasn't bloomed!!

Billerica, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi all,
I have Holly's Pride that I overwintered in my house. It wasn't the happiest but I managed to keep it alive and in the spring I repotted it and set it outside. It's got lovely green leaves but not a single bud. I've been feeding it w/ MG 20/20/20 on a regular basis but nothing has happened. Should I have pruned it? GIve it a different fertilizer? It's in full sun.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
THanks,
Lora

Mine are just slowly starting to bloom now. It seems to have been too hot before, as a lot of the leaves got sunburned. Hope they get started before time to bring inside again!

We are in the same time zone, and all my hibiscus are blooming like crazy. I do still have 2 that hasn't bloomed yet. But they do have buds on them. Give it time, it will bloom. I put mine in the GH in the winter, and I don't prune them at all. I do have 4 that are huge 2 trees and two bushes. Sometimes I have to prune them in order to just to be able to put them in the GH. I use HVH plant food. I am giving you the web site they have a lot of information on growing hibiscus.

That's good to hear. I was thinking that all my TLC was going to go unrewarded!
How do you winter yours? 2pugs, is your greenhouse heated? Mine got so severely stressed over the winter that I am looking for other suggestions. I was thinking that might have been the reason for no blooms yet.
Is there a fertilizer that I could get locally? I started putting MG superbloom on them, but just learned from the HVH website that that is actually a bad idea.

I sometimes just use Peters 20-20-20 but really rather use fertilizer especially for Hibiscus. I got a GH about 3 years ago. It sets on the south side of our house and is only about 2 ft away from the house. This way it doesn't get any of the north wind. My husband ran a vent from the house to the GH for heat, which is only used at night. Cause during the day in the house I have the wood burning stove going. I also have a electric heater in it. It works really well the GH stays around 40, and haven't lost any plants yet, knocking on wood. Last year was a bad year for me, I had knee replacement surgery in Jan. and my plants didn't get the TLC they would like. But my husband did his best.

An update...

Well, I finally got some buds! But it seems that now it's too late!!
It took until beginning of October to get anything. Now some of them are beginning to open.
I'm going to bring it inside soon and put it against a southern facing glass door.
But this is what I did last year and all of the leave turned yellow and eventually fell off. This year, I'm going to put it into the basement as soon as the blooms fade.

What do y'all think?

Do you have a lamp you could use to give it some supplemental light? An old floor lamp set on a timer to give it about 12 hours of light a day will works wonders for it. There are all kinds of fancy plant lights out there but any old light is helpful. I would use a high wattage bulb like 150. You will have to watch the plant carefully so it doesn't grow too close to the bulb and turn it regularly as it grows towards the light.

FYI I have a Holly's Pride also and have found it to be a stingy bloomer for me.

The leaves yellowing and falling off is a response to stress--often when you move them from one environment to another they will drop some leaves. But they usually bounce back--I would think even if you lose a couple buds now, if you give it conditions that it likes inside the house it'll do it's stress thing and drop some leaves, but then come back and give you some more blooms.

My hibiscus will loose most of there leaves in the GH but they still bloom for me all winter long. They do look funny without any leaves and a big beautiful flower on them. But I don't care I will take a flower any way I can get it.
