Maternity Plant

Brick, NJ(Zone 7a)

Very fun fast growing plant. think its a type of jade. also called a 'mexican hat plant'
this looks like a jade with spinach leaf shaped leaves
each leaf will grow 10-20 baby plants along the edges, once they are strong/big enough to grow on own, they drop off mother leaf into the soil to grow on their own.

my son really enjoyed this, and replanting the babies, now i have an overpopulation issue, and a 'maternity plant orphanage'

i'd be willing to trade for certain house plant cuttings, just let me know what you have. or i can just ship some to you via usps priority mail, and can take paypal for the $4.60 postage if not trading.

thanks... more pics of it are in my journal.

Maybe your son could take them to school and give one to everyone in his class, or do a show and tell about them and then give everyone their own plant? (Do they still do show and tell?????)

Brick, NJ(Zone 7a)

funny you should say that... i've given babies to 3 teachers i know to do just that.
my son is in 6th grade, so he doens't do that .... but i've given them to his friends that come over all the time.
thanks for suggestion.

Very easy to grow for sure and dont need any water.

Former employee here, gave me one, I have it on my desk at work, darn thing just keeps producing... at first, I threw them into a bigger pot with something else so they could grow, sure don't need more than one mommy plant. Now I just pitch em in the trash. Poor little babies!

Brick, NJ(Zone 7a)

geez, i can't get rid of them! i guess i'll keep sprinkling them outside. I'll find some woods to abandon them in. :)

Mother of Thousands .... not a jade but a Kalanchoe/Bryophyllum. There are 5 listed in Plant Files: Neat plant! We had some growing along a wooded lot across the street from us this past spring .... will have to check to see if it's still there ... was quite a lot of it when I saw it blooming @ April. I've heard it can be invasive down here in Florida .... sprouts everywhere when those babies fall off the mom leaf!
