Chicken info for beginners.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay, I have to admit, I knew very little about chickens for most of my life. We got crazy and bought a bunch in April. I probably still don't know as much as I think I do. LOL CC and many others have been trying hard to educate me. ;)

I have to confess, I always called the "things" hanging below a chickens beak, jigglers. I even often say, if I have to eat much more chicken, I will grow jigglers! I now know these are called wattles and they serve a function!

I was looking up something today, concerning wattles and found this nifty site, kind of a chicken 101. This is the anatomy page. Wander around!

Do you have any favorite sites for beginner info?

Some of us posted a bunch in a thread someone started with the suggestion that it be made a sticky, but it wasn't. Perhaps the person who started that thread could find it for you. I'll look and see if I can find it.

LOL It was you who started the thread. Here is is.

Here's a bunch of links I posted on how to build coops and pens too. There's also a link with good info on what is needed for poultry housing.

Hey Hart! It was me that suggested a sticky and Terry said when the info was complete, to let her know if/when we wanted a sticky. I didn't think anyone sounded all that interested in the sticky so I just sort of let it drop.

Are we sharing a brain this afternoon? ;)

I pity anyone who is sharing a brain with me today. LOL I have a new puppy and it's like having a baby in the house.

I think that would make a good sticky. We have so many people looking for basic information. If you'll get the first one added as a sticky, I'll repost the links for building coops in there.

Jello is a cutie! But I have you *so* beat. I have 2 rabbits with 3 babies, 3 cats, with 3 babies, 2 dogs, 7 kids and 44 chickens-about to get a big bowl of cukes. LOL If anyone is short of brain cells, it would be me!!

Not so many babies, but we have 23 rabbits four of which are babies, 11 chickens, two dogs including Jello, two cats, numerous fish in the water garden. I lost count after this spring's batch of fish babies.

Only one kid and she's grown but has provided three grandchildren including the two babies, who are fraternal twins. Can I count those in my tally? If I had seven kids I think I'd go hide under the porch. LOLOL You'e a better woman than I am, Badseed. LOL

I'm getting the best cucumbers out of my garden this year. I planted burpless ones and they're delicious. I picked a big one last night so we'll be having cukes with dinner too.
