hummer feeding at sweet peas

and I've been thinking about ripping them out as they are too tall for a 5 foot fence. I came home from work today and saw the hummer happily feeding, so now I don't want to pull them out.

Can I pinch them back and when, and keep them shorter, but still get nice blooms?

I don't know why you couldn't. Will probably make them bushier
