Mountain Magic in 100 degree weather

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

These bloomed for me on Sunday. It has been 100 degrees both yesterday and today. I'm simply amazed with how well these blooms have darkened and held up during this horrible heat we are having!! Not one sign of giving up!!

Good for you! Such a trooper they are! All is green here in CA.. bloom pics are a treat!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

That is so pretty.

We have had no rain for such a long time, now it is HOT!

Just beginning to get brug buds. Sure hope summer improves.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I love MM...thanks for sharing the wonderful blooms. I lost mine over the winter and the replacement plant is still small, but it is growing and I'm looking forward to the beautiful blooms again. I have been very surprised so far that a number of my brugs. are setting buds and 4 new to me plants have buds that may be open tomorrow. With this heat wave we are in, I figured it would be fall before I saw many blooms. MEM and CS have been in continuous bloom since the first of June. None of my seedlings have bloomed yet although two have blooms ready to open...but 2 out of 86 is not a very good ratio, lol. Some of them are 7 feet tall and have not y'd. What to do with so many plants this fall if they have not had time to bloom. They are my first crosses so I have no choice but to hang on to them...somehow.

Beautiful. She is a real trooper. 100 degrees puts me down real quick.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

That has been out temp. last few days, no rain in sight, I even dug up a couple of my "special" Brugs to bring in the house they were so wilted in the heat, and needed loads of water every night.and the buds keep dropping off.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Don't feel alone, Doris. I don't have a bloom on a brug in my yard. It's been a horrible summer in Iowa, for brugs. However, there is a chance that you may get the storm we had last night. It left us with 1-1/2 inches of rain and it's so nice outside this morning, with more rain predicted. I hope you get it.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I sure hope so to Brugie, we are sooooo dry, seems the rain misses our town every time

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

I am very impressed with MM and it is definitely a keeper. And, the amazing thing is that the blooms have tons of fluffy pollen.

I guess I've been lucky here. Isabella, MM, Mountain Treasure are currently blooming, and then I have buds opening on MEM and "Orange Custard." And tons of huge buds on a lot of others.

Hopefully everyone will get out of this horrible heat wave by getting much, much needed rain!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

We got some last night and it looks totally different outside now. I just wish the temps would drop ten or fifteen degrees.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Oh, by golly, there's some rain headed this way!! Just hope that it does not dry up, as it usually does before it gets to me!!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Gosh your having l00 degree weather in Indiana? that's horrid for up north. We're having l00 here with ll0 heat index. and I have one or two with blooms, and my mountain magic is doing poor in this heat, but it's still a small plant, but nothing is growing and nothing is blooming, and if by chance it does get a bloom, it doesn't last long before it falls off. I hope to see some blooms this fall. but It will have to be late fall like in October LOL

Yours is doing very well. I do love that flower.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

I'll tell ya what, if I could handle the 102 degrees we had today, like MM has been handling it, I'd be in good shape. As it turns out, a transformer next to my daughter's school, which is across the street from us, caught on fire at 5:27 this evening. The power was not restored until 7:45. It was on for about 40 minutes or so, and then went out again 3 different times for about 10 - 15 minutes each time, in about a period of 40 minutes or so. I thought my face was melting!!

Yeah, MM definitely deserves a medal of honor for flushing as she is, and holding up to the heat as well as she has been!!!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Wow, I have no reason to complain about our weather, I guess the whole USA is suffering right now. Must be the beautiful July we had. Makes me wonder what winter's going to be like.

we never get snow around here. but when we do, it's a big big deal LOL

last time it snowed here was about 3 years ago, and not much, heres a photo taken from the top of my barn looking over the greenhouse.

ahhhh, snow... cool.... rain ??? just a few drops, please?????????????? It has broken the record here the last 2 or 3 days. 103, I think. Just heard thunder. We need the rain ..

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Yesturday we had heavy rolls of thunder, and lightning, and I thought "GREAT" finnaly RAIN but ya know what, that's all there was to it, NOTHING else not one little drop of the wet stuff, we are still stuck in the DRY & HOT MODE.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

I'm so sorry, Doris. There's nothing more frustrating than to watch a storm roll in and either go in a different direction or dry up before getting to you. That happened to me earlier this week.

What's really bizarre, is that CT had temperatures in the 50's last week. Is that not insane?

Kathy, I bet it is funny when you get snow because people just don't know what to think!!

Maybe if we all did a little rain, get rid of the heat dance.... :)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh Doris, this must be getting serious in your area. We have the horrible heat and I'm afraid that another week of it is going to really crisp the leaves on the brugs. On the news it said that Iowa's future forecast is for another ten years of above normal summer temps. They didn't say anything about rainfall.

Here is my Mountain Magic.. it had 5 buds but 3 fell off. Temps in the mid 90's here. amazingly cool for this time of the year but more humid than usual... no one here is used to humidity so it is a killer.

sigh.... no rain, just thunder. again.. and we are having temps in the 100's again this week. My brugs are in part shade and have kept them watered... my electric bill will be chasing the water bill.
Those are some pretty MM blooms. lovely color.

Beautiful brug! I hope your temps straighten out soon. I can sympathise with the heat minus the humidity... what a killer.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I'm very happy to see that Mountain Magic is bringing enjoyment to so many. :)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I've been drooling over MM for 2 or 3 years, now.... I just love the substance of the blooms, such nice color, very hearty, yet delicate and I bet the smell is out of this world.... is it? Oh, no, I don't need another pink brug!

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Snowhermit, you did an awesome job with this one. :)
AuntB, she does smell very nice, especially when there's a flush going.
Did I mention the spidermites and cats leave her alone? That is another definite plus!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I like the tolerant ones, less maintenance. She's special!

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

it is 100 here an my MM has not only bloom but she is setting Pod as fast as I can pollinate her. She has very few leaves now so tomorrow I will move her into the shade. She and Flamenco are just beautifully and smell wonderful.

I just got my first pod (MM XNOL). This was crossed in the spring.
