Passiflora 'St. Rule'

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Hello All.

In my opinion, this Passiflora is under-appreciated among vine afficiandos. It's an old English hybrid, I believe. The flowers are somewhat small, perhaps 2.5" at most, but are lovely, lightly fragrant, and borne in profusion over many months. Plus, the plant isn't bothered by spider mites and is easy to cut back and manage on a small trellis.

Here is a pic of one of the 20+ flowers open today on my plant. It's in a 10" clay pot. We had just enjoyed a lovely summer light rainstorm.

She is very pretty, Erick. I really like the way she throws her petals back. Hey, maybe you could send some of that rain down our way. A tenth of an inch was it today. I'm glad you got the rain and I'm sure your plants loved it.

Thank you Shirley. I've always thought that these flowers have a lot of attitude. They are also a favorite of bees and butterflies here. The only downside is the smell of the leaves, for some people at least. Even a whiff of them triggers a bit of a gag reflex in me. Others that have smelled them have no reaction at all. Perhaps it's just me!

Is that smell in general Erick or just this particular one? I have never smelled anything.

A very pretty white!

Thank you Marie.

Kell, for some reason, I find that the foilage on this Passiflora stinks terribly. I don't notice that about any others in my collection.

Aw, Erick how adorable! I want one.... I don't care if the leaves stink! My passies aren't blooming as well as summers before... Lavendar Lady did put on 1 nice flush but, I've seen 4 blooms on Constance Elliott, a couple on the Careula and never see any on Purple Haze until it's almost frost warning time. St. Rule is really nice looking especially with the rain drops.

I've never noticed leaves on plants smelling, but know of people who do. By the way Erick....we got some rain early this morning. A little over a half inch and with the two other rains in the last three days, it brings our total to about 1.4 inches of much needed moisture. Maybe the fields of corn will now mature properly.

Erick, this one does have smelly foliage,I have noticed that many species and hybrids have a signature smell, some almond like some down right nasty. May discourage predators in the wild.

still a very blooming machine.
