Does anyone know what became of these? They were wonderful big lilies but I haven't seen any in a catalog in quite some time and I'd love to find them again.
Imperial Strain Lilies
You might contact The Lily Garden as the Imperial strain was developed at the Oregon Bulb Farm back in the 60's. Perhaps some are still grown at the field in Parkdale OR. From time to time these OBF strains show up in the Pacific Northwest Lily Society bulb sales. Not too long ago they offered the Crimson Elegance strain.Hope this helps. I did look around and didn't see it offered by any major supplier of which I am familiar.
Thank you very much, pardalinum. What is the realtionship between The Lily Garden and The Oregon Bulb Farm? Did the one buy the other out or was there some migration of the breeders from the one company to the other?
The owner of the Lily Garden is a geneticist who started out at OBF, then yes, "migrated" to start a new company. OBF went bankrupt in the late 80's. The breeders who are still around are the founding charter members of the Pacific Northwest Lily society. They will know, I'm sure. At least they will know if the Imperial strain still exists.
Wow, how lucky I am that you looked in on this thread. Thank you so much for all your help and information.
Karl
You are welcome! If I remember I will also ask around next time we have a meeting (PNWLS)-- that will be in October.
