Ooooo, purdy! Have you had the Schizo very long? I purchased one in early spring from Logees and it is growing great in it's 3rd pot. It had one little bloom about a month ago, but it was at the bottom of the plant and by the time I spied it, it was raining and not very pretty. I'm feeding it and it gets ample (6-8 hours) direct sun each day. I would say it is about 3 feet tall. Do I just have to be more patient?

I had a schizo, but unfortunately it didn't make it. When the rains started, it went to heaven, from flooding.
Now, I am out everyday watering again, cuz the sun is hot and dry with no rain in sight. Go figure!

We're having a hot dry snap here, too. We had a lot of rain and almost everyday for about a week, since Saturday, it's been over 95 with indexes over 105 and dry, pulled out the extra hoses to reach over to the hosta beds... I've got mine (Schizo) in a pot, I've deemed it special and will try to keep it alive in the south livingroom windows this winter. I wanna see more blooms on it. I kept 4 or 5 there last year and they've done great.

Beautiful pics, AuntB! My Schizo is one that i purchased from a seller named puggybw on eBay for $12.00. I gently staked it with a green $0.97 stake from HD and haven't done any fertilizing. It's under 2-3 inches of cedar mulch in one of my flower beds and gets about the same amount of sunlight as yours does, but it's got a slight bit of partial shade where it is, not that I planned it that way.

However, if your hibiscus are in the direct sun all day and it's extremely hot (not sure what the weather is up there right now) they will hold off on blooming as much. I have a lot of buds on mine constantly.

Oooooh - one thing - I did plant mine with some granular fertilizer mixed into the soil when I planted it. It wasn't anything special for Hibiscus, just some flowering shrub fertilizer that I bought at Walmart. It was in a magenta pink bottle that's about the same size as a household Windez sprayer ... with a yellow lid. Was about $6 or so, and it's lasted me for forever!! Plus, I see better results from that stuff than I do with the regular Hibiscus granular fertilizer sold at the local nurseries. I only fertilize plants once a year with this stuff but it says you could do it a little more. No need to when they're doing so well though! You might try that ...

Closeup of the Double Peach bloom closing at the end of the day ... why does the middle stamile (spelling? correct name?) look so odd without the red balls and yellow stuff? If you couldn't tell I'm a newbie gardener, you can now!!

Your daughter is adorable!

Awww, she's a cutie! And she likes flowers! That is the reproductive part (yellow stuff that gets on my shirt) ..... I'm not a beginner but I haven't really gotten into the part naming, guess I should have paid more attention in school. I think they are kind of cool how they reach out so a butterfly will see them, real velvety looking. It has been very hot here, I'll be more patient and try to give it a bit of filtered shade in the afternoon, it's in a pot cause I'm zone 5b. What is your double peach's name? I have this double, (more orange than peach) and not sure what it is called:

Sorry the pic is blurry ... it's been really very humid here and so my camera fogs up BAD!!

Oh - and THANKS for the compliments on my daughter! :) She's the most important thing in the world to us!

She's going to be a gardener justl ike her Mommy, that's for sure. When we go out in the backyard, the first thing I do is survey all of my flowerbeds for weeds. As soon as I find some, I start pulling. She now does the same thing, but doesn't know the difference between weeds and mulch (sigh and chuckle). Funny thing is, one day I was pulling weeds and she got right in there next to me, squatted down and started grabbing fistfulls of mulch and throwing it out behind her like I was doing with the weeds. I got on to her and told her not to do that enough to where she moved in place behind me and every time I would throw a weed back behind me, she'd pick it up from where it landed and throw it behind her, lol!! Like an assembly line! This still cracks me up every time I think about it ...

Here's a pic of her "helping" me water the new sod and flowerbeds a month ago ...

Oh, she doesn't like the cold water! That story about weeding is precious, Amanda. Keep a jounal and write that one down! What's her name? She appears to get around very well for 1 and 1/2. I think we do have the same hibby. I had 3 blooms at once yesterday. Here's a bloom from last winter..though not as big, still very welcome when there is snow on the ground.

Oooh yeah, pretty! Don't you just love the way these blooms look? It's just stunning! And so big!!

Her name is Celeste ... here she is after drenching herself, lol! I actually have a scrapbook and you BET that story is going in there! :)

Now Celeste looks like she's having fun . . That first water pic is cool with the "water halo", how perfect for such a little angel.

I think we decided a while ago just to call the double peach ones "Pretty", a couple of us have posted them for ID from time to time and nobody seems to know the name, so we figured "Pretty" was a good one!

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Ha ha, there you go! Pretty will do!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Yes, THAT'S it! I believe H. Pretty was on the tag. lol

Amanda, your little daughter Celeste is just cute as can be!! And, how wonderful that she "works" in the garden with you. Hopefully it will grow into a lifelong joy for her, as well as you :-)
