After reading the thread about Deb's presentation at Green Mama's ,and reading Becky's line "spreading the word and enlighting folks" I had a thought. I will state right off the bat it probably can't happen because of legal issues I don't know about, but! What if in our sticky thread we could link to those of you who have put together basic presentation and articles on Butterfly gardening basic's or even Butterfly and Hummingbird gardening.I admit I know nothing about copyright or ownership issues about this stuff and I'm sure it's a concern. My only thought is it may be an addional resource for teachers .Even those of us who live in the suburbs in Home Owners Assoc. and have monthly newsletters and I know they are always looking for copy to fill up space. I'm thinking if it was limited to those authors who gave permission in advance for use some of the copyright thing could be avoided.
Just think if only one local Butterfly Club was to form or one teacher was to start raising butterflies in the class room or even a few folks started raising host plants wouldn't it be worth it.
I'm probably dreamin and it probably impracticle to do ,but let me know what you think.

"spreading the word and enlighting folks"
Don I think it is a fabulous idea.
hi, don--
Sounds like a good idea to me, too--it would not be too difficult to make up a post with all the Butterfly Info links that you found informative and interesting and put it in another sticky. Or you could even make up a page in your DG diary with these good threads and sites so others could see it and link to it or read the material and use it in their original writings. I have saved lots of links/addresses in my diary and send them to gardening friends all the time.
FYI Many articles, information, and posts are not copyrighted at all and parts of them are open to quoting with the appropriate courtesies and acknowledgments. And there are lots of ways to communicate on the web without infringing on copyrights. The easiest and most common is providing the link to the site on the internet.
Here is a link to a Citation Guide for the Internet for anyone who is interested:

I think when posters don't acknowledge their sources in the appropriate way it is annoying to the writers and many would then call that stealing or plagiarizing the material.
The photos on DG are another matter. Most of them have the 'copyright' indication on them and can't be used without the owner's permission.
Your homeowners' association editor (or you) can use DG for research and write an original article or it would be neat if some the experienced butterfly posters on DG would write up their material and observations and send it to magazines and newsletters for printing and distribution too.
There's a lot of great information here. No doubt about that!
