3 mins to sun down

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Please excuse my horible photo taking - I am known for poor photography far and wide! John and Sharri I sugest you don't look, it might be too painful!
Anyway, we had a weird light in the garden this evening....

Jenny - don't be silly! It's actually a cool foto! I love weird light evenings! I'll go outside and just stand and stare....my favorite is the gold ones - when everthing gets painted with this gold light and colors all merge....very "twilight zone"ish.

I like your picture. Love the brugs, too. Very nice. What is the plant that looks so red?

Nothing too special, it's a bouganvillia. We are very dry on this side of the island and bougies do well. The only care they get is a haircut every now and then and they reward us with bloom12 months of the year. My neighbor doesn't trim his and it's taller than his house!
Aloha...

It is a big deal to me. I have a hard time getting them to even show color. I have one that has variegated leaves and if it didn't, there wouldn't be anything to look at right now. I think one of the tips is trying to color up, but nothing is happening fast here this year. I always thought that Bougie's needed heat, but that must not be true. Maybe mine is getting too much heat and sun. I love color so it sure would be nice if it would do something for me. LOL!

Here's a tip for what works with buggervilles. Let them get dry...almost wilting dry.....then water like mad. They bloom. This has worked for me all over the world. Once they are blooming, keep the water regular for your area. Should have said "what works for me"....every garden is different, but it may work for you too.

Thanks. I'll try letting them get dryer. Didn't know if they needed to be rootbound or not. Mine are heavily rooted and not in a huge pot. There are two in the pot. I water every other day and they are usually ready for the water. I may not have enough sun for them. I may try moving them to more sun to see if that will help. Thanks again.

They definately need lots of sun!

OH BHM that is beautiful! Especially love the brugs! I have a cutting that 's all of 18" tall now, just a few leaves! That one is beautiful!!!

See Jenny? Everyone thinks its beautiful. Never think you can't take a photo.

Thanks for all your kindness over my photo taking, I go on the premiss that a bad photo is better than no photo at all! I keep saying I am going to take a class to learn how to use the camera because obviously I am not getting much from the booklet!

I second Shari's advise re the bougies....we almost never water ours and they are in full blazing sun. We seldom watered them in Arizona either...Don't know about bougies in a pot though, probably quite different.

Texasgal, thanks for the kind words but acually the brug is way out of control and needs to be cut back drastically, I just couldn't bear to do it this week when it was so full of flowers. It also takes constant hits from spider mites which are a way of life for us here. You should see some of the beautiful specimens that are posted on the brug forums that I belong to! In my dreams those would be my brugs!

Everything I grow (pretty much) is in pots....no choice. I think the boogervilles (sorry - family name, can't think of them as anything else, haha) like to be somewhat rootbound - sort of like getting a hug from your home. Some day I am going to try a brug....but not til I get more of a handle on the wet/dry spots in my yard.

Thanks Shari. I was all prepared to let it dry out and we have had rain two days running now. I'm sure it will be hot and dry a lot before fall so I can test it.

Good luck....If you get skies like the one Jenny posted to start this thread, maybe some of the "sky magic" will help your plants. Hey! - Whatever works!
