I received two of these seeds and I have no idea how to get them to grow??? I've tried the coffee filter method but no sprouting and its been over a week. I'm posting this in propagation also but here first as its not a very common plant.
Thanks!

nyctanthes arbor-tristis Tree of sorrow
It's a tropical sort of tree, many tropical seeds need to be soaked overnight in hot water first, some of them need bottom heat, and some of them just take a while to germinate and you don't always get a good germination rate. I've never tried this particular one from seed, but I've started a number of other tropical trees and that's what I've found. I haven't used the coffee filter method, usually they come with instructions so I soak them or not based on what the instructions said, then plant them in seed starting mix and I always use bottom heat. Some take months to germinate--a lot of times right when I've given up on them all of a sudden they'll sprout! And it's not uncommon to have less than 50% germination, at least in my experience--could be the quality of the seeds, or my seed starting skills, but that's what my experience has been.
Thank you!
Hi,
have you had any luck yet? I had bought 100 seeds from a reputable company and have tried them to germinate in several different ways. Not even one sprouted. So don't be disappointed if they don't germinate.
I was only given 2 fresh seeds and neither came up. Oh well, I would have had to make greenhouse space for it anyway.

yes. The power of positive thinking. I have also bought it once from Logee's so that I can kill it. It worked..!!LOL!!
Caren, the seeds need to be fairly fresh as they dry out very quickly, I've found.
In India dried seeds is what we used to start them. Anyhow, i bought a plant from TT. I will see how it does here.
