Pollygardening Your Orange Custard :)

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

I received this from you last Fall, and obviously it has hung on, despite my abuse (overwatering during the winter, and now being severely rootbound). I am just amazed with the amount of buds on this 21 inch tall brug in 90+ degree temperatures!! There are more buds on the plant than are pictured, others are longer and are already hanging down, close to opening. I think the only other brug that rivals Orange Custard with buds would be Isabella, but she is about 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide.

I cannot wait to see the blooms!!
Many thanks again!!

Gosh, that should be a great display of blooms before long.

Thanks, I.L for your picture and remarks. Orange Custard is hardy and prolific, plus a definite shrub. DO show us blooms when they come.

I will most definitely post pictures, Polly! I am impressed with Orange Custard. It doesn't seem to be a mite magnet like some of the others, and has held onto all of its buds. And, I like the fact that it wants to be a shrub. :) I really do need to pot it up, though!!

Here she is today. She's a pretty light yellow, but I think that has got to be from the extreme heat and lack of rain that we've been dealing with. I really like the nodding quality in the blooms. Definitely a profuse bloomer!!

That's a nice showing of blooms for such a shortie. LOL! Imagine what she will be like when she is full grown. Wow!

Isn't she nice? And, the spidermites do not bother her, so that's another plus!!

I've got an unnamed one (might be a cross with Isabella) over 4ft and not a Y in sight... What a beautiful little brug, blooming and so short.. hows the scent?

You will find a much richer orange as she matures; but don't expect her to grow higher than three or four feet.

I am so pleased to receive your accolades; I really need to name her now.
Her is a shot showing more orange:

ooohhh, she does darken up quite a bit, doesn't she? That's a gorgeous shade of orange! And, yes, you should register her and name her.

I'm very pleased with her. No problem with mites, cats, stands up in the heat very well, and has dropped very few buds because of the heat. Very nice one!

Oh she's so pretty! Your last pic looks like it's made for a magazine! How bout Pixie something? or something Pixie? Too over-used? Polly's Petite Pixie? Just being silly, it is gorgeous. Let us know what name you decide... I think I need to find smaller ones, easier bringing in an out in spring and fall.

Heat tolerant? Pest resistant? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I want one! I got Alex last fall and babied it all winter/spring/summer. I think I've finally nursed him back from a spring & summer spider mite infest. He seems to like it with a.m. direct sun and light shade during the hot afternoon... He really needs to get it together, cause I only fuss and baby them for a couple years, that's all the patience I have... if they don't conform (if I can't find their happy place) they are trading material... I'd really be interested in one that blooms and stays at 3 - 4ft and is tolerant and undemanding.
