Down here we grow rain lilies year round, and we don't concern ourselves with ice and snow. My question is -- can you grow rain lilies up there and leave the bulbs in the ground to overwinter, or is it necessary to dig them up in late fall and store them til the next spring? If you leave them in the ground, do you need to mulch them with a couple of inches of straw or leaves? Thanks for any input.
OK folks, here's another question for all of you up north.
dig them up and store here!
I left them in the ground once and next yr Nothing!!!!
Wow, Martha, I would have not thought so. They seem so hardy. But I will take your comment as gospel. Thank you.
ok heres an other newbie ? what are rain lilies?????
Gloria
I leave mine in a large pot and bring it in during the winter. I've had it about five years. I just ignore it in the winter.Very easy plant!
Bonnie
very nice so where do you get them?
Gloria
Well, Gloria, they can be found just about anywhere, particularly on eBay, for a price. For me, it was kinda just being at the right place at the right time. Many years ago when I was on the golf course, there was a semi-marshy area where my golf ball landed. My golf ball was in the middle of hundreds of very pretty little pink flowers.
They were just too good to pass up. I used my 9 iron as a scoop to dig up a couple dozen plants/bulbs. Those dozen bulbs have become several hundred today. It was one of my best days ever on the golf course. :-)
I don't golf but I could learn if thats what you find when you go!!!!! but realy can you get them some where and would they grow here z5?
ps I could carrie your clubs for you!!!! lol
